TRENTON, N.J. -- Just over a month before he jumped into the governor's race, U.S. Sen. Jon S. Corzine sank $7 million into a firm owned and controlled by one of the state's casino operators.
The investment with Icahn Partners LP, a hedge fund headed by Carl Icahn, earned Corzine up to $100,000 by the end of last year, according to the Democrat's Senate financial disclosure statement.
Corzine in a published report Friday conceded that if he defeats Republican Doug Forrester in November, the investment could run afoul of a state law that largely restricts governors from holding financial interests with gambling companies.
"This one is a no-brainer. There's no reason to have that conflict. If that is an issue _ and I guess it would be _ then it will be liquidated. It would be no hesitation whatsoever to divest," Corzine told The Star-Ledger of Newark.
The report on Corzine's investment with Icahn Partners comes on the heels of news that the Democrat made and later forgave a $470,000 loan to a powerful union boss who was once his girlfriend.
The loan allowed Carla Katz, president of Local 1034 of the Communications Workers of America, to buy out her ex-husband's share of a 19th-century home and 10-acre property in Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County.
Corzine has insisted the loan and his one-time relationship with Katz would not hamper his administration's ability to negotiate fairly or effectively with the union, which represents 16,000 public employees.

Corslime.
My My My Ping!
Ahhh! But did he ever go duck hunting with her?
There is something fundamentally wrong when a key litigant vacations with a justice who is about to rule on his case. It's even more troubling when their trip is funded by an oil company that has a direct interest in the case," said Corzine. Unfortunately, this reflects the Administration's long-standing pattern of improper influence and special favors for special interests. President Bush needs to establish clear rules to prevent this type of conduct from ever occurring again. I also hope that Justice Scalia will reconsider his decision to not recuse himself. There should be no doubt about the Court's objectivity and impartiality.;- JonCorzine, January 17, 2004

OOPS... I was caught. Sorry. Is the press all over him like they've been with Schwartzenegger who's relationship with the dietary supplements goes back years? Didn't think so.
Let's see. The Laut can resign from the Senate and take Corzine's spot running for governor and the acting governor (what's his name, anyhow) can appoint someone to serve out the rest of Laut's term.
Or maybe the Torch can make a come back and run for governor. There are so many really fine upstanding Democrats in NJ who can step in if Corzine continues in this downward spiral. (/sarcasm)
Well, well, well, a dirty politician running for Governor of one of the states with the "dirtiest politics" reputations...good fit!!!
My gosh, and all the crapola that he has spewed at Cheney and Bush about Enron and Halliburton...puh-leeeeeze!
roflol!!!
I heard on Fox News yesterday, that ole ex-Gov. Whatsisname is sooooo proud of what he did as a Gov., that he is going to capitalize on it, and write a book!!!!!
I guess the easiest way to make money in the USA, is to break the law, or do something totally crude, immoral or whatever, get disgraced---and then write a book!!!
"But did he ever go duck hunting with her?"
Excellent point. Everyone knows that ethics rules only apply to Republicans.
And they put Martha Steward in jail.
My My .. Unions and the casino's
What one big happy "Family" Corzine is involved with
So what you're saying is I will never be famous or wealthy? ;) Sick and sad isn't it? His poor wife and child. Off Topic Ft. Wayne's F-16's just flew over the Brick Yard! That's where they were going! I had been concerned! LOL
Should we be calling him "Don" Corzine rather than Jon?
In NJ, it's difficult to find an upstanding Republican! Although my congressman Scott Garrett is a wonderful guy, he is a diamond amid the garbage.
unlike Corslime & Katz there was no canoodling between Cheney & Scalia (not that there's anything wrong with that...)
ROFLMAO, You owe me a keyboard!
Well I'm sure if you ever run into Corslime, you won't be whispering anything into HIS ear! LOL
