Need to read it, shows what feckless allies NATO would have been if the fulda line had been crossed, BTW you might be more interested in his books written as Owen Perry.

Civil war novels.

That's Schroeder toeing the party line. We will hear a different song from Germany when Angela Merkl becomes the next German Chancellor.

And it ain't much of a confrontation if one side announces in advance that it will never, under any circumstances, resort to force of arms (as French leaders and many western liberals helpfully declared in the run-up to March 2003 vs. Saddam). Why are so many liberals so incapable of understanding the realities of how people like Iran's Mad Mullahs and "Revolutionary Guards" actually think?

She knows how important US military presence in Germany is and they will be more compatible with the US government in the future!

I have to revise my previous post. As I thought more about it, I recalled reading some articles Colonel Peters wrote for professional military journals. One of these days I'll have to make time for fiction. Thanks for the recommendation.

She may not make it and Schroeder may well be re-elected. The Christian Democrats have been too honest about what needs to be done to straighten out the financial mess that Germany is in. The people know it's the truth, but don't want to do what needs to be done. They may just try to postpone the inevitable by going with Schroeder.

It won't be long before we find out, the elections in Germany are to be held 'in Autumn 2005' - September begins the northern hemisphere autumn.

Read carefully, he said "I don't think anyone is currently thinking about military action."

GOD, I thought that when the E.U. was solidified that germany would become the dominant nation within the confederation.
Instead france and their pussy ways seem to have prevailed.
Are there a load of trees in Berlin for the muslims to march in the shade under?

zarf: In all fairness, he leaves wiggle room here.

I think the EU and the US have struck a good balance.

This is all heading towards a naval blockade.
I agree, this is a good-cop/bad-cop scenario. The Iranians are not fooled though, and are working like mad to complete their nuclear deterrent, thinking that the North Koreans are keeping the US out because they've got nukes. The fact is, China is the only reason the illegal Pyongyang regime is still in business.

The establishment of Kurdish autonomy is a step toward the dismantling of the mullahcracy in Iran, as well as a step toward giving the Kurds their own national homeland. Thanks, Turkey, for refusing the US the use of bases during the Iraqi liberation.
EU pushes for tough talk on Iran
by Honor Mahony
08.08.2005
"The European proposals are unacceptable to the Islamic Republic of Iran, they provide no guarantees for Iran's interests and are contrary to the Non-Proliferation Treaty," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said. According to AFP, the EU's proposal, which was backed by the US, would allow the Islamic republic to pursue peaceful nuclear energy work so as long it refrains from fuel cycle work that could help it make atomic weapons. Last week French foreign minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said the world will face a "major international crisis" if Iran does not accept the proposals. "I hope Iran will heed the voice of reason."
EU warns Iran on nuclear plans
by Honor Mahony
03.08.2005
The EU has threatened to break off its nuclear talks with Iran if the country goes ahead and resumes its uranium enrichment activities... Tehran has rejected the EU's threats. According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi on Tuesday said his country would never abandon its "legitimate rights" to peaceful nuclear technology under international law. "The time for threats and intimidation is over", said Mr Asefi... Iran is not worried about the UN because it is confident international inspectors have not found proof of an existing weapons programme and also because it is hoping for support from Security Council members Russia and China.

"what feckless allies NATO would have been "

And still are. We are NATO and I'd like to know why our hundreds of billions get spent there just to support their socialist economies and 10+ percent unemployment and uber generous benefits?

Thanks for the ping.

Iran however is upping the stakes with their Mullah backed election of a military man - the founder of the Revolutionary Guard's Jerusalem Brigade, a terrorist arm with links to Al Qaeda and with members of Bin Laden's own family.

Well, if we do have to go to war against Iran, modern-day Germany is one of the last countries I would expect to lead the coalition. Poland would do better, for a start; the Poles know enough about freedom to appreciate it, at least.
