My son-in-law didn't take anything away from you, when he came here.

Well for one thing, if we weren't so overcrowded, you wouldn't have to live in a place where wells are 600 feet deep.

Sheehan Family Statement (as mentioned this morning on KSFO)
http://www.secondbreakfast.net/archives/002082.html ^ | August 2005 | Cherie Quarterolo

Posted on 08/11/2005 10:45:37 AM CDT by CounterCounterCulture

The email is from Cherie Quarterolo, who is speaking for the family and is Casey Sheehan's godmother. The email, with the statement contained, follows:

Hello again Melanie,
Our family has been so distressed by the recent activities of Cindy we are breaking our silence and we have collectively written a statement for release. Feel free to distribute it as you wish. Thanks – Cherie

In response to questions regarding the Cindy Sheehan/Crawford Texas issue:
Sheehan Family Statement:

The Sheehan Family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.

Sincerely,

Casey Sheehan's grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

I know full well who the poster is, and so do you.
And I suggest you stop it.
It is obvious when you post that retarded crap to people who have been arguing with the poster you are bothering.
I suggest you stop immediately.
And stop feigning innocence, it is insulting and boorish.
As well as dishonest.

But they're not anti-Semites. Heavens, nay. Don't you dare question their philosemitism! No, they looked at the entire world, including countries that lop off your skull if you convert to Presbyterianism, and what did they choose as the object of their ire? A country the size of a potato chip hanging on the edge of a region noted for despotism and barbarity. By some peculiar coincidence, it happens to be full of Jews.

"Its proper when discussing someone to give them a heads up so that, if they want to respond, they may."

He can respond. The discussion was out in the open, but it was a response to someone else. Iconoclast is his/her own person, and should not feel slighted. If he was insulted by not being CC'ed, mea culpa.

"You should wait to hear from a Jewish person who feels hated by iconoclast for their religion before you label him an Anti-Semite."

Nope. If someone aligns themselves with someone who has made blatant antisemitic comments and agrees strongly with those comments, there's an incredibly short path to the label. Why should I have to wait for a Jew to respond before I criticize wrong thinking? That's cowardly.

You may have missed it in the post that you responded to, but we missed the chance to defend the Jews when this sort of nonsense started before, and the Reich moved quickly to capitalize on that lack of outside condemnation. It would be a worse tragedy if such horrors visited them again, considering we SHOULD recognize the pattern.

As for hearing from a Jewish person, I have family members who ARE indeed Jewish, one of which was in the US Army during the war. That fine gentleman was a blond-haired, blue-eyed Jew of all things, and lied about his name when he was captured. This saved him for a while, though they did eventually figure out his racial background, and trucked him off to a camp. He and his lifelong best freind were the only survivors of the breakout in which many of his fellow campmates were gunned down. I know a bit about this subject.

"And, any thoughts on how someone who would qualify as having an America-First philosophy could express themselves w/o running into knee-jerk accusations from defenders of the status-quo?"

Simply put, don't fall for leftist and/or isolationist dogma and actually try to understand that, in fact, there is no such thing as isolationism. I'm America First as far as I am concerned, and that includes going abroad to stop our avowed enemies from continuing to plot against us and our allies.

As far as defenders of the status quo, I assume you mean agreeing with our current course of action is considered such. If so, your view of status quo is very small. Status Quo is the nonsense of letting Saddam pop off weapons at our jets during the laughable ceasefire period. Status quo is also letting the terror states continue to go the way they have been going regarding us - now that we have brought the theatre of war to THEIR borders, via our Iraq troop presence, we can influence or directly spur change to that "status quo".

Thanks.

I would love to see some confirmation of Cherie Quarterolo--that she is in fact what she claims.

I hope it's true. It wouldn't surprise me. It just seems like a very backdoor way to do things. And typical of the kind of stunt some DU-er might try to pull.

Of course if it turns out to be legit, the MSM will ignore it anyway. Look at how they got off the Rove story once it began to go south for them.

They are only interested in hurting the President, the military, conservatives, the GOP, the country, Western Civilization--in that order. They will report nothing that doesn't advance that mission.

"Do I think the situation we find ourselves in would be any worse with [Kerry] in office? I doubt it"

Wow. That's unfortunate. Could you imagine the Supreme Court Justice/ other judges that would get nominated if Kerry got elected? How we would be praying to the alter of Kofi Annan and the UN if Kerry were elected.

Very Scary.

It is understandable that this woman is upset over the death of her son, but she has gone beyond the bounds of acceptable grief. Her son died in the service of the United States - for which she should be proud - and he did not die for a Neocon PAC or for Israel. For her to charge this, dishonors her son's memory.

Yep. Think of the economy as well. Kerry would have rolled back the tax cuts, etc.

And Iraq. At the very least we would have the UN calling the shots (as you say), which would mean we'd a) pay hundreds of billions in "reparations" to Iraq, and b) leave with our tail between our legs.

Which is exactly what Cindy Sheehan wants. (And probably Iconoclast.)

WRONG !

I live on top of a small mountain, in a somewhat rural area in New England, where it is not only normal to have to have a very deep well, but has been the case since it was settled. Have you never read nor seen "MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE" ? The descriptions of what it took to build the house and dig the well through every kind of rock, is not only funny, but completely accurate.

And just WHAT has the depth of my well to do with my son-in-law ? It was dug long before he was even in this country!

You want everyone to depopulate the cities, yearn to live in a rural place, but you have less than no idea what living such a life entails. So let me tell you about wells. Such a deep well, as I have, is not only necessary in many areas in this country, but it is a good thing! Even during long droughts, I don't run out of water; unlike people who have shallow wells. My water is also purer; though the natural deposits in it, means that I have to have a purifier.

I bet that you don't know anything at all about living in a rural area. Your stupid comment about my well proves that, beyond a shadow of a doubt! LOL

Actually, that was a similar situation in my family. My paternal grandmother's family could have passed for Aryans (blond, blue eyed and the men are quite tall). Which shielded them from quite a bit of anti-semitism.

The quote earlier by James Lileks (But they're not anti-Semites. By some peculiar coincidence, it happens to be full of Jews.) explains why overwhelming hatred and resentment of Israel often overlaps with anti-semitism.

At the same time, cry 'anti-semitism' is a little bit like crying wolf. Which is not to say that wolves don't exist, or aren't a serious problem. But if you see every shadow of a wolf, sooner or later most people will stop believing you. And as a Jew, that's a big concern for me. Cindy Sheehan's views are certainly disturbing, even offensive, to me.

I would like to know why Iconoclast aligns himself with Cindy Sheehan. But I'm going to hold off on calling him an anti-semite for the time being.

Great find!

Cindy Sheehan has really burned all of the bridges to her family and friends, for the spotlight and 15 minutes of fame. When this is over, she'll be left with nothing at all, but withered news clippings and her diary. Once the left has used her, they'll abandon her.

Age of Reason is a nice name.

I have some interesting quote for you:

"At fifteen, I set my heart upon learning.

At thirty, I had planted my feet firm upon the ground.

At forty, I no longer suffered from perplexities.

At fifty, I knew what were the bidings of Heaven.

At sixty, I heard them with docile ear.

At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart; for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right."

(Confucius, Analects II,4)

I can't see myself showing the same restraint as you. Cindy Sheehan says we waged war at the behest of the state of Israel, the Jewish homeland, I would call that antisemitic. Not the final antisemitism of calling Jews inferior and animals worthy of gassing and experimentation, but it does lump international Jewry together and blames them for the ills of the world.

For Iconoclast to agree with her philosophically, even on the single issue of the Iraq campaign, indicates to me a certain level of antisemitism. I don't see how it can't. It certainly isn't PROSemitism!
