I think announcing Senator Schweiker as his VP candidate was an act of desperation, he did not have enough votes IIRC, but the Schweiker may have hurt him. I was glued to the TV during the whole ordeal. One memory is of a southern state (Mississippi?) where a lot of delegates voted for Ford when they had declared for Reagan to the folks back home. So one delegate demanded and got an individual vote by each delegate, so they were on national TV and exposed to the people they had betrayed.

More people voted for Reagan in the primaries, but the GOP establishment saw to it that Ford got more delegates. Howard Baker and James Baker badmouthed Reagan every chance they got, I think it was an establishment Republican who came up with the line about "Governor Reagan could not start a nuclear war, President Reagan can?"

" I rather doubt George will check out via assistant humping heart attack. That line describes Clinton more accurately than Bush."

I recall speculation about that, I think he died in 1979? I recall an SNL news skit where they gave a laudatory farewell to a man who passed away this past week, but the punchline was something about Sid Viscous passing away.

You claim to be a Christian. Would a Christian deny emergency room medical care to a woman in labor simply because she didn't have proper immigration papers?

Apparently bayourod is trying to coerce your feelings because you are a Christian. Do not be fooled, no American nurse in any hospital is going to deny a baby it's birth despite the despicable circumstances of the mother (whether illegal, drug addict, welfare mother, whatever) it just will not happen. He claims that you as a Christian are not following your belief. He lies. Please read the thread. He also brings up the fact that America deports parents without allowing their children to go with them, another lie. It was in Arkansas and authorities asked illegals if they had children to which they replied "no". Apparently they did not wish to cart these children over the border when they came back, some as young as 3 months old. Would you, as a parent, leave your 3 month old here so as not to have the burden of bringing them over the border a second time? Please do not succumb to the "anti Christian" bull. Admin mod, I understand the use for the "other side of the coin" and I totally agree, I think bayourod's gone too far. He's using Christianity as a crutch for his platform. When in the last time has a Christian "gunned down a man looking for work"? Please read the thread. I'm not sure exactly what post # but it's "the new GOP Betrays America". Please read and evaluate for yourself.

Did you miss post #87? Are you aware the the foundation of the anti-immigrant movement is the Zero Population Growth movement and their principle tool is abortion, especially RU 486 (except in China where they promote infanticide)?

You emphasized "defense of our borders". Are you aware that the Secretary of Homeland Security testified before two Congressional committees last month that he could not secure our borders against terrorists until after Congress enacted certain immigration reform laws, and that Tancredo immediately vowed to block those reforms? Now who is defending our borders and who is obstructing their defense?

You emphasized "conservative'. Is there anything conservative about opposing The Republican party, President Bush, Dick Cheney, Condi Rice, The RNC, The National Chamber of Commerce, the Wall Street Journal, The National Association of Manufacturers, Walmart, states' rights, local government, the war in Iraq, the Border Patrol, Karl Rove, Republican governors, the 14TH Amendment, due process of law, free trade, civilian law enforcement, and the freedom to move about without stopping at military checkpoints to show your "papers".

"It is OK for Christians to be involved in politics, and support either party as they see fit. But they should do it on their own and not as an organized effort"

That's the argument the pro abortion groups used against us when they were trying to have our tax exemptions revoked because we organized out of our churches.

Nelson Rockefeller Dead in Bed

When: January 26, 1979

The rumors: Rockefeller had a heart attack during sex with his 27 year old blonde mistress. What does a frantic mistress do in such compromising circumstances? It's an hour before an ambulance is called — and the call is made not by Megan Marshack but by TV personality Ponchitta Pierce who lived in Marshack's building. Marshack is left a townhouse in Rockefeller's will. Rockefeller is quickly cremated.

What a dirtbag. He might as well have been a limousine liberal.

Reagan was true to his ideals, and although he was saddled with Bush Sr. as VP, he accomplished a great deal of good.

I didn't like Bush Sr. very much either, but I'll never forget that little bat-eared freak Ross Perot cackling like the devil in his concession speech after delivering the election in '92 to Clinton.

She makes some very good points. President Bush has a reassuring manner, though. The Badnariks, Brownes, Peroutkas, Buchanans, Phillipses and Tancredos don't. They tend to turn people off before they even get to the main message.

The candidate who comes across as best able to manage unstable and rapidly changing situations comes out ahead of those who have a blueprint of what they want to put into effect or return to. New events and changing circumstances can render their plans unworkable or irrelevant while they are only beginning to put them into effect.

Bush's own plans are far from the best (CAFTA, immigration, etc.), and it's worth considering alternatives. But when markets are exerting such pressures around the world, I doubt we can freeze conditions as they are now or ought to be through legislation and protectionism either.

"Howard Baker and James Baker badmouthed Reagan every chance they got, "

And both of them served as Reagan's Chief of Staff.

"Howard Baker and James Baker badmouthed Reagan every chance they got, "

Just a footnote. I believe that this has been published. In the latter days of the Reagan administration it was G.W. Bush who made the decision, and with Nancy's permission marched into Howard Baker's office and fired him.

Reagan was President, G.H.W. Bush was Vice President and G.W. Bush was the natural leader who men followed.

"They claim to be "independent" but the truth is that most of them are incapable of an independent thought."

Truely a case of the cat calling the kettle black, k00laid drinker.

"All they know is that they hate Bush and hate Republicans because Buchanan didn't get the nomination in 2000. They have glommed onto Tancredo and his anti-Hispanic immigrant campaign because Buchanan told them to."

For the record, both Buchanan and T. Tancredo are anti-ILLEGALS. Try not to polute each thread with your silly race baiting.

"They lie about voting for President Bush in 2004 and then claim that he misled them about his position on immigration, while at the same time blaming him for the increase in illegals because they claim he promised amnesty in a speech in January 2004."

Some of us are upset that Bush left his Conservative base by the wayside.

By ICE's own figures, illegal crossings have increased 25% since 911.

Check your facts.

".....and have been leading this nation to fight and win the war on terror..."

What flavor are we drinking today?

Is there really a WOT when 10,000+ are streaming across our borders unaccounted for each week?

"The anti-illegals crowd is neither Christian, pro life nor evangelical. They are anti-family values, anti-medical care for babies, anti-education of children, anti-Catholic Church, and pro abortion."

Speak for yourself, I am anti illegal...I am PRO LEGAL... from a strictly business point of view. Illegals create unfail competition. By magically waving a magic wand and proclaiming them LEGAL may be the politically expedient thing to do... but it is really rotten to the core. What about all the people waiting for years to emigrate here LEGALLY? Don't YOU have any values at all?

I am a Christian (Catholic), and very much pro family values, pro medical care for American babies....if you want to help babies in Mexico, go donate YOUR money to the proper charity....I am PRO education of American Children.

Once again, you are so far off the mark it's laughable.

You just absolutely hATE that word "American" hugh?

It really shows.

Good article on how big government politicians have taken over the leadership of the Republican Party.

"I'm not anti-Republican, I'm pro-American."

Excellent point. I might borrow that and say, I'm Conservative and Pro American.
