RICHMOND -- Civil liberties lawyers have appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court to allow a Wiccan priestess to offer prayers before a public board's meetings. Cynthia Simpson was turned down in 2002 when she asked the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors to add her name to the list of people who customarily open the board's meetings with a religious invocation. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the suburban Richmond county. In their petition, received by the court yesterday, American Civil Liberties Union lawyers accuse the federal appeals court of trying to "obscure with legal smoke and mirrors" Chesterfield's preference for mainline religions. "Although Establishment Clause jurisprudence may be beset with conflicting tests, uncertain outcomes and ongoing debate, one principle has never been compromised ... that one religious denomination cannot be officially preferred over another," ACLU attorneys wrote in their 13-page filing.

So, what are the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors afraid of? Let the wiccans do their thing...just like everyone else. Drawing negative attention to this issue only gives them more exposure.
I suppose only certain beliefs are allowed
When the Messiah returns(or arrives depending on your views) trust that the ACLU shall be on hand to spit in his face.
When will we be able to ban the ACLU?
Just because her religious leader incited them to commit murder, shouldn't invalidate her constytutional right to pray for the supremes

I. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
II. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
III. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain.
Ring a bell?
Now the Wiccan's want a prayer, next it will be the Jews, then the Moslems, then the Catholics and the Protestants will want to rotate the Christian prayer, then the Buddhists and the Hindus will get wind...
Should be fun for the ACLU.
I agree; let the Wiccans have their 2 minutes before the board, along with the Baptists and the Buddhists and the Catholics and the Pagans. If you're going to let any religion bless the meeting, then let 'em all do it. It's better than the opposite: banning all religions from all public life.
Geez....some of you are damned near as foaming at the mouth as the Muslims.
Are any of them Wiccans?

I wasn't aware that the wiccans founded America.

Say, which book is that in, anyway?
Sheesh....
