It behaved disgracefully and in a nakedly partisan fashion, with former officials of the Clinton administration attempting to use the platform to damage the president's reelection chances. Then, after months of ludicrous conduct, out of nowhere came the brilliantly conceived and written report that set a new standard of eloquence and coherence for government documents, became a major bestseller and redeemed the commission's reputation.
Well, that didn't last long.
In a story filed at 7:10 PM, the Associated Press is now confirming all the particulars of what will now forever be called the Able Danger disaster. The 9/11 Commission staff did hear about intelligence-gathering efforts that hit pay dirt on the whereabouts of Mohammed Atta -- in 1999 -- and deliberately chose to omit word of those efforts.
And why? Because to do so might upset the timeline the Commission had established on Atta.
And why is that significant? Because the Mohammed Atta timeline established by the Commission pointedly insisted Atta did not meet with an Iraqi intelligence agent in Prague.
And why is that significant? Because debunking the Atta-Iraq connection was of vital importance to Democrats, who had become focused almost obsessively on the preposterous notion that there was no relation whatever between Al Qaeda and Iraq -- that Al Qaeda and Iraq might even have been enemies.
I was very skeptical of this Able Danger stuff about Atta, thought it was just sme way Rep. Curt Weldon was trying to sell a book. No longer. This is clearly becoming the biggest story of the summer -- the fact that, as Andy McCarthy alluded to, the "intelligence wall" set up by 9/11 Commissioner Jamie Gorelick when she was in the Justice Department did, in fact, cause the linchpin of the 9/11 attacks to evade capture by American law enforcement.
So was the staff a) protecting the Atta timeline or b) Jamie Gorelick or c) the Clinton administration or d) itself, because it got hold of the information relatively late and the staff was lazy?
More important, what will co-chairmen Tom (pound his fist on the table) Kean and Lee (look sorrowful) Hamilton do and say in the next 36 hours about this calamity?
Had the commission followed up on this report, the implication would have laid a great deal of blame for 9/11 on the Clinton administration.
The question also before us is just what was the purpose of having Ms. Gorelick on the commission, when it was her "wall" that might have had such a tragic bearing on 9/11, and why did staffers on the commission refuse to include this important information on Atta, or brief the higher-ups on it? It gives the appearance that Ms. Gorelick was there to CYA (cover yer arse) herself and the Clintons, on the commission that was supposed to be the end all of all, to leave no stone unturned, etc, etc, to ensure a 9/11 couldn't happen again.
Do you have a warm fuzzy that the commission met its objective? I don't. It makes me want to vomit! Politics and CYA trumps the lives of innocent Americans. That's indescribably despicable. Unless this is completely exposed, we are doomed to repeat performances of 9/11 like events.
Looks like the Bush Administration gave the 9/11 Commission enough rope to hang themselves. The deck was purposely allowed to be stacked with ex-Clintonites and they let them run rampant knowing that sooner or later they would screw up that the MSM couldn't ignore it.
Rove was a great rabbit for the MSM wolves to chase. It was odd that "outing" someone who outed herself years ago got so much attention.
You are right! He was whining he couldn't have a security clearance for three years as part of the agreement. I have a hunch that agreement has been tossed.

Can republicans, even if they are straight shooters, trust their own staffers?
The Clintonista's denials that Atta visited Prague was their "out" to try to suppress the Able Danger intelligence. It's a shame that the Republican's on the Commission just rolled over and let the Clintonista's get away with covering up the Able Danger intelligence.

Think about this.
1. Cindy Sheehan lost her son in Iraq, and yes, she has might be expected to lash out in anger.
2. We are in Iraq largely because of the events on 9/11.
3. If 9/11 doesn't happen, do we even go into Iraq? Absolutely not.
4. 9/11 could have been prevented. We knew all about the risks presented by at least four of the hijackers, including the cell leader Atta.
5. 9/11 did happen because Jamie Gorelick, under the direction of Bill Clinton, erected the "wall" that prevented vital information about these four hijackers from reaching the F.B.I.
Cindy Sheehan, along with the rest of the useless MSM needs to connect these dots and maybe they will see what a normal reasonable person would see... that the dots lead directly to Bill Clinton and Jamie Gorelick.
Cindy, if you want to talk to your son's killers, the ones who precipitated the series of events that eventually let do your son's demise, you need to head to upstate New York, Chappaqqua specifically.

They really are beginning to fit aren't they? This is the only story since I've been following the Clintons that really has the potential to bring miss Hillary down.. We are just missing a few more of the pieces. I pray for our sakes that the other pieces will follow shortly.
I heard someone on Hannity's show, I think, say that Hillary was in charge of this department when she was First Lady...
I don't know what that means exactly...but it was spoken about in reference to her being the one that put Jamie Gorelick in the position she was in to "build" the wall...
I wonder what other "duties" that Hitlery undertook that we dont' know about, that ultimately could have prevented 9/11?

I think you are correct -- I have the vision of Karl Rove sitting his his chair chuckling away tonight. Had the feeling all along that the Rove deal was a rope a dope for the RATs.
