THE 9/11 COMMISSION IN MORTAL DANGER
The Corner on National Review Online ^ | 08/11/05 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 08/11/2005 5:57:46 PM PDT by TonyInOhio

It behaved disgracefully and in a nakedly partisan fashion, with former officials of the Clinton administration attempting to use the platform to damage the president's reelection chances. Then, after months of ludicrous conduct, out of nowhere came the brilliantly conceived and written report that set a new standard of eloquence and coherence for government documents, became a major bestseller and redeemed the commission's reputation.

Well, that didn't last long.

In a story filed at 7:10 PM, the Associated Press is now confirming all the particulars of what will now forever be called the Able Danger disaster. The 9/11 Commission staff did hear about intelligence-gathering efforts that hit pay dirt on the whereabouts of Mohammed Atta -- in 1999 -- and deliberately chose to omit word of those efforts.

And why? Because to do so might upset the timeline the Commission had established on Atta.

And why is that significant? Because the Mohammed Atta timeline established by the Commission pointedly insisted Atta did not meet with an Iraqi intelligence agent in Prague.

And why is that significant? Because debunking the Atta-Iraq connection was of vital importance to Democrats, who had become focused almost obsessively on the preposterous notion that there was no relation whatever between Al Qaeda and Iraq -- that Al Qaeda and Iraq might even have been enemies.

I was very skeptical of this Able Danger stuff about Atta, thought it was just sme way Rep. Curt Weldon was trying to sell a book. No longer. This is clearly becoming the biggest story of the summer -- the fact that, as Andy McCarthy alluded to, the "intelligence wall" set up by 9/11 Commissioner Jamie Gorelick when she was in the Justice Department did, in fact, cause the linchpin of the 9/11 attacks to evade capture by American law enforcement.

So was the staff a) protecting the Atta timeline or b) Jamie Gorelick or c) the Clinton administration or d) itself, because it got hold of the information relatively late and the staff was lazy?

More important, what will co-chairmen Tom (pound his fist on the table) Kean and Lee (look sorrowful) Hamilton do and say in the next 36 hours about this calamity?

And you'll never guess WHO in the middle of the current 9/11 Commission scandal has some 'interesting' ties going right back to Filegate (Gorelick was/is a loyal Clinton drone brought in to control the Dept. of Justice when Web Hubbel had to resign):

"At the same time, Levin also noted, “Mrs. Gorelick's former law firm - Miller, Cassidy, Larroca and Lewin – [was] representing Craig Livingstone, the man at the center of the [Clinton] Filegate scandal [being investigated by the Justice Department].” Not surprisingly, Gorelick, who was effectively running Justice at the time, did not recuse herself."

FOX is getting ready to discuss this right now on Britt Hume.
What did the 9/11 commission know, and when did they know it?

NYT is now reporting the Air Americal Scandal.

They will try to bury this.

In recent years, a reliable source that I refer to as "Ali" began providing me with detailed inside information on Iran's role in supporting terror and undermining the United States' global effort to eradicate it. I have forwarded literally hundreds of pages of information from Ali to the CIA, FBI, and DIA, as well as the appropriate congressional oversight committees. The response from our intelligence agencies has been underwhelming, to put it mildly. Worse, I have documented occasions where the CIA has outright lied to me.
Background info on "Ali" that Weldon mentions. By the way, Weldon has asked for an investigation into Bill Murray leaking the real name of "Ali":
Lawmakers met with Iranian exile scrutinized over intelligence

FOX -- military will go under oath and testify about Able Danger. "Was there a deliberate attempt by 9/11 staffers to keep this info secret?"

Richard Clarke should have known ALL about this at the time it happened (1999-2000). Why was this not in his book?

Now I understand why Mr. Clarke apologized to the 9-11 families at the hearings.

Gorelick never recuses herself from anything. Is there something peculiar about that?

They all knew. That morning of 9/11, everyone of them knew they had f**ked up huge. What's a little perjury charge compared to what would happen if the dots were all connected.

Prior to joining Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale & Dorr in July 2003, Gorelick was vice chair of Fannie Mae.

As part of the four-person Office of the Chairman, she shared responsibility for overall management of the company, directed its efforts to reach underserved markets and oversaw Fannie Mae's external relationships, legal and regulatory affairs.

Gorelick sure did a fine job at Fannie Mae :-( Another Enron from a finanacial management standpoint. Didn't she receive generous bonuses based on Fannie Mae performance that is now believed to be from questionable accounting practices? Last I read the current estimate of Fannie Mae creative accounting is to the tune of $11 Billion, and counting.

From the AP:
Staff members now are searching documents in the National Archives to look for notes from the meeting in Afghanistan and any other possible references to Atta and Able Danger, Felzenberg said.

They need to start with Sandy Bergers pants and socks.

FOX is on it. Britt Hume had a segment. They were discussing "a possible deliberate attempt" to keep the Able Danger info a secret.

I can remember seeing the President's schedule in email that included every last second and it came from a RAT site -- someone had to leak that info. Ditto the codes for AF One. Scarey.

Weldon has been on this for a long time but I never knew about the Army Intelligence on Atta until now. Knew about the walls sometime ago. Had no idea on Atta until I heard Weldon talking on Tony Snow when I was in the car.

There is something driving this and my guess is that it is definitely not the Clintons.

I went to see one of my Senators who was in town last week and he alluded to some things that would be breaking. Also thought Burger's sentencing hearing being delayed was strange because no reason was given.

Think doing a timeline is a good idea. I would like to know if anyone on here heard about Atta and the Army Intelligence folks before this week.
