An encouraging aspect of this week's AttaGate scandal is
that at least one intel branch actually knew about Atta,
and thought they had enough to take down his cell. Had we
not had the Gorelick wall and the criminally negligent (if
not complicit) Clinton Admin, 9/11 might not have happened.

Well, the wall is down, and the adults are in DC now. We
haven't had a significant domestic attack since 9/11, and
several have been thwarted. Vigilance is still warranted,
but dread is not.

Don't leave the keys in your tanker.

The wall is down? The adults are in DC? Only partly and partly. A bureaucracy is still a bureaucracy. It is the fundamental nature of a bureau -- either furniture or human organization -- to have all drawers closed most of the time.

In DC expecially -- DC is a land of cul de sacs. Dead ends, but each every important in its own mind -- after all it is a privilege to live or work at the end of a cul de sac, and so avoid all the traffic and hub-bub.
