India, Israel to sign economic pact

Chandigarh: Israel on Thursday said it would sign a bilateral economic agreement with India by the end of this year to further scientific and technical relations.

"The potential of Israel depends upon overseas market. Companies in Israel need to expand as the export market is still small. India is a fast growing economy which is understood by the business community of that country," Israeli ambassador David Danieli said.

"This is the right time to find niche in India in the business terms," he said, adding that Israel's IT delegation would visit India later this year.

Listing fruit as the major export of Israel, he said India was the second largest trading partner for the country to export fruit.

Noting that Israel's economy was driven by advanced technology, he said farmers would diversify cropping pattern in India.

The water management is becoming science of tomorrow for many countries, he said adding that this need had been felt due to acute shortage of adequate drinking water in several countries.

"In Israel by 2010 no farmer will be allowed to use high quality water," he said.

Danieli said Israeli technology can help produce quality rice even in areas with poor irrigation facilities.

The Ambassador, who concluded his three-day official visit to Punjab, said the major task before Punjab's farmers was crop diversification. "Farmers will have to diversify by sowing different varieties of flowers, exotic fruits and seedless tomatoes."

Israeli companies, he said, had great business opportunities in Punjab. An agro-tech delegation from Israel will soon visit Punjab to learn and share expertise in the area.

This is a smart move on Israel's part. America should also ally with India. Rebirth the Commonwealth!

Just think of this axis: America, Britain, Canada, Australia, India, Israel, (the caribbean islands tied to Britain) and South Africa.

Bow before the Axis of Responsible Democracy, Islamofascist biznitches!

Try taking that alliance on, China... :)

An alliance like that (and more) would be good to see, friend.

The old link here isn't working to find The Times (UK) piece.

The Times Online, July 10, 2002, "Britain bans Israel label on goods from West Bank"

...might try a search with the words in the title as keywords while I continue to search.

Interesting I had not heard about that. I used to walk past DEFRA on my way to work everyday. Civil Servants are the biggest union of workers in the UK I think. Unions are great when it comes to inefficiency and leftism

On a more positive note it was the UK that started the demand for Israeli fruit and vegetables in Europe when Marks & Spencer began to sell Israeli Avacodos (In the seventies I think). Since then we have a had a flood of other food stuff including peppers and various fruits. Normally Israeli goods compete on price and quality and are a good alternative to Egyptian stuff which is also available.

Thank you. I found what appears to be a virtually endless list of links. But the material yielded in the search does indicate strongly that the anti-Israel boycotts are being instigated by the left (several labour organizations) and by Islamist organizations. We can see that by noting the names of organizations along with the names and offices of individuals mentioned in the articles (few links below). ...my apology for terseness and generalization in that first comment. Although somewhat more subdued so far, many in our US left (including mainstream churches) are also pushing economically against Israel.

I have noticed for a while that lefties generally hate people that are white, jewish, rich or successful. Personally I think Israei food produce is of a good standard and am happy to buy it over Egyptian anyday. Maybe Fox News should do an English/British Version. It could teach some people a few things.

This is great news!! India is turning out to be a good friend of Israel. There is a leftist nut brigade in India that hates Israel, US and loves China. But the nationalists really want good relations with Israel and the US
