The President hugs Sharon Smith, mother of Garret Smith, who committed suicide in 2003. Mrs. Smith is married to Sen. Gordon Smith, R-OR. GWB signed S. 2634, the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act, in the Roosevelt Room, Oct. 21, 2004. The act authorizes the spending of $82 million for youth suicide prevention programs at college campus mental health centers.
