Kfar Darom Residents Plant Seedlings
23:58 Aug 15, '05 / 10 Av 5765
(IsraelNN.com) In a move that some called an act of pure faith, residents of Kfar Darom in Gush Katif on Monday did not busy themselves with packing, but with planting.
They decided to plant seedlings under the threat of expulsion, announcing it is their prayer that they shall witness seeing the trees bear fruit.

LOL, thank you, I didn't know this. :-) A people who can't even pronounce their "homeland" LOL.
" He was the PM during the Yamit evacuation."
You're right. Of course, they got something for it...
Peace treaty with Egypt which has held up.
What is Israel getting from this?
Nothing - more demands, more terrorism.
"The number of Israeli PMs who wouldn't "put up with this" equals the number of US Presidents who supported Israel "settling" the West Bank and Gaza: The Ultimate Round Number."
Even Peres never offered to get out of Gaza!
"Here's a bit of trivia. Arabs can not pronounced the letter 'p' as in Palestinian. It is not a sound in their alphabet. That is why they call Naples - Na'b'lus. So the idea of a historical Arab presence in 'P'alestine is ludicrous."
Yup, the pronounce the P as an F.
" Moshe Dayan was a traitor to Israel?"
He gave the keys to the Temple Mount to the Wakf after Israel took Jerusalem from Jordan.
I don't want to belabor the point, but I think that both Judea and Samaria were promised to Abraham and then to Moses in the Bible. I agree that subsequently the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah separated, which was tragic. But in terms of Biblical legitimacy of Jewish claims to both areas, I believe that they are identical.
Are there any folks reading here who know Hebrew? I was listening to an Israeli today on the radio, and he said something incredibly interesting! If you've been following this Deportation Plan at all then you've heard of KISSUFIM. The KISSUFIM Crossing, according to info I've read and heard, is the main crossing INTO Gush Katif. So THIS is the crossing that the army will most likely need to use in the coming days to make this all go smoothly. You'll see Settlers gather here to hinder the roadblockings, etc.
NOW, according to the Israeli I listened to today, The SAME HEBREW LETTERS in the word KISSUFIM are the ones in YAM SUPH. YAM SUPH is the REA SEA! I hope someone can verify this for me. Please!!
It's worse than that. Imagine that President Bush ran for re-election against a candidate who was clearly calling for the troops to come home immediately, and President Bush staked out a clear position (as he did) that they had to stay until the job was done.
Then, a year or two after winning the election, he announced that he was changing his mind.
Moreover, because Israel is a party-based system, he put his change of mind to a two separate referendums, one among the membership of Likud and one among the executive leadership of his party. He pledged to abide by the results, but when he lost by a wide majority he said that he would ignore the vote.
Even more, since he needed cabinet approval for the destruction of the Jewish communities of Gaza, he summarily fired those members of his party in the cabinet who voted against disengagement and broke alliances with other political parties so that he could bring others into his cabinet who would vote with him. In other words, he continuously shuffled the cabinet deck to get the results that he wanted.
"The name Palestine was given by the Roman Hadrian after putting down the Bar Kochba rebellion in 135CE/AD. It was named after the Philistines, Israel's mortal enemy, to stick it to the Jewish inhabitants."
The Philistines weren't even Arabs - they were Hellenic! From just East of Greece.
I've been looking for it for two years -- in good faith -- and I haven't found it yet, either.
BIBI OR BARAK......EITHER WAY WE GET PERES!!!!
bttt
In retrospect, Moshe Dayan's surrender of control of the Temple Mount to the Wakf was a disastrous act.
However, back in 1967 -- before the Arab League came out with its pledge of 3 no's (no recognition of Israel, no negotiations, and no peace) this could have been an honest, though misguided, attempt to find a way to peace with the Palestinian Arabs.
I don't think it's fair to call Moshe Dayan a traitor because he did this. Shortsighted? Yes. Misguided? Yes. Naive? Yes. A traitor? No.
"I don't think it's fair to call Moshe Dayan a traitor because he did this. Shortsighted? Yes. Misguided? Yes. Naive? Yes. A traitor? No."
I didn't call him a traitor to Israel.
I used Benedict Arnold to show how a one time favorite and hero could do something dumb just as easily as the next guy.
Though he wasn't a traitor to Israel, I think that many would consider giving the Holy of Holies to the Arabs to be traitorous to Judaism. A subtle difference that I don't expect everyone else to agree with.
After the 48 war and the war in the 50s and the 67 war and ongoing Arab terrorism, he should have known better.
Besides that, IT WASN'T HIS TO GIVE.
I was describing the Arab areas, not the Jewish settlements. I've only been to settlements on the West Bank, not Gaza, so I have no personal experience to speak of in Gaza except my little tour of Rafah while waiting for the bus to Sharm.
But my point is, that Gaza as whole is crap. I'm sure there are parts that are nice (even Detroit has nice parts), but Gaza as a whole is crap crap crap. And you can't hold onto the nice settlements without holding onto the crap areas filled with angry Arabs. Any Israeli will tell you that, so you don't have to just accept what I say.
Nobody should be pining about losing some heavenly little land, because Gaza is certainly not that. We should only be concerned whether or not this move improves Israel's security.
Why not throw the Arabs out? I know I'm showing my complete ignorance with this question.....but was that ever an option?
The Philistines were not originally of Greek origin -- they were around way before Alexander the Great conquered the region and Hellenized the whole Eastern Mediteranean. Even many Jews became Hellenized after awhile -- look at the Channukah story.
And don't dis my homie moshe dayan. He rocked
