A large percentage of the Israeli population is against the expulsion, which explains why Sharon never put it up for a national referendum."The cabinet just voted 16-4 to continue with it. One of the four was Limnor Livnat, who at one point was personally targetted by some of the radicals for insufficient zeal.

Yeah, all the Labor Ministers who want to retreat under fire to the '48 cease fire line Auschwitz borders and half of Likud that are Sharon cronies. Not a surprise.
"The cabinet just voted 16-4 to continue with it. One of the four was Limnor Livnat, who at one point was personally targetted by some of the radicals for insufficient zeal."
Of course, Sharon forced out many other members of the Cabinet who were opposed to it, and a number of others left on their own.
Sharon also said he would abide by the Likud memebership vote, until the vote turned out against it. Then he backtracked.
Support for the expulsion has dropped month by month in polls since January. It's now very close to a statistical dead heat.
