Did the "settlers" have legal ownership to that land? Did they purchase it from someone who had legal right to it, or did they take it?

I would assume that if they had legal right to it, the courts would defend their rights to it regardless of what the Prime Minister says.

1. The courts in Israel are dominated by the left. They don't care for property rights.
2. The Gaza communities were built on public lands administered by Israel. Previously these lands were administered by Egypt.

This has little to do with property "rights" and everything to do with military considerations and more secure Israeli borders with a Wall between the Palestinians and the Israelis that the Minuteman Border Project could only dream of.

The settlers want to live wherever they want to live but they still expect the Israeli Army to defend them.

This reminds me of the residents of the coastal islands in South Carolina who refused public safety authority orders to leave their island homes before Hurricane Hugo hit. At the height of the storm, these same people were then begging the same Police to risk their lives to come rescue them from the storm surge that was ripping their houses apart.

In order to stop all the hyperbole about "Israel deporting Jews", maybe the Israeli Government should allow all the settlers who want to stay in Gaza to do so........As long as the settlers sign a document that acknowledges that their safety is now their own responsibility and no longer the responsibility of the Israeli Army.
