The dems are always wringing their hands over "the appearance" so why not look into it? Just to make sure we don't smear poor Jamie Gorelick (choke), we should turn over every stone and get to the bottom of this.

I'm not convinced until I see what's in Sandy Berger's pants.

Uhhh . . , let me rephrase that.

I saw Weldon on FoxNews this morning, and he was a whole lot more persuasive. He pointed out that the Commission at first admitted that it'd been briefed on this, but concluded that it was not credible. Now they've reversed themselves and say they never heard it.

He also stated that there are 12 respected military men, including officers, who will testify in front of Congress that they ID'd Atta when they were assigned to Able Danger. He also stated that there are 15 boxes of documents that the Commission did not see, and that the reason they did not see the documents is that they did not follow up on the information given to them in connection with the Able Danger briefing.

If these documents exist, and they mention Atta, then that pretty much blows the Commission's claims to hell. They can't really expect us to believe that someone briefed them on Able Danger, but forgot to mention the most important fact about it--that it ID'd Atta as an al Qaeda operative.

Also, even assuming that they did not get briefed on this, I've gotta ask why not? It was their job to investigate. If they did not discover this info, then they did not do a thorough job of investigating.

It could be partisanship. I suspect there are a few republicans who have some involvement. After all some republicans were awfully defensive of Jamie Gorelick.

Personally I don't care who's involved, I just want to know the truth.

These are not "selections from NRO," as if everyone over there is on the same page. This is Podhoretz raising a question in his first post, then proceeding as if he had proven his case by merely raising the question.

JPOD is ticked at the rest of the folks at The Corner for not bowing down and kissing his backside when he declared his Truth about stem cell research the other day. He spoke, ex cathedra, and nobody applauded. Well, he'll show them.

Lots of folks are suddenly questioning Rep Weldons credibility because... get this... several people have questioned his credibility! Case closed. Raise a question and you have all the evidence that you need!

I want hearings with people under oath. I want Gorelick, Clinton, Reno, Clinton, Clarke and all the rest of the Clintonoids to answer questions under penalty of imprisonnment for lying. And the first one that takes the Fifth we get out the firing squad gear.

OK. OK. That's a bit extreme. A rope will do.

True, but that wall issue has been there all along and nothing has happened. What IS going to happen? Will there be a call for an investigation into this? I wish, but I doubt it. If this story is proven false, the whole larger story will return to the background.

You seem to be parroting the "Smear Weldon" talking points. Funny how the actions of the former heads of the 9/11 Committee didn't seem to seem unusual to you.

It would be nice if he would do some research of his own instead of taking the 9/11's rebuttal or something he read in Time as gospel.

Podhoretz made an ass out of himself all last week over the stem cell debate -- Really made himself look like a fool. I've been suspicious of him over the years, but his recent antics at the Corner have cinched it for me. I have to see corroboration from other journalists I trust before i take anything the pod says as gospel.

I am not obsessing over the details of Able Danger at the moment. We'll see how it progresses..

My point is simply this:

The 9/11 Commission was damaged goods from the get-go because of the presence of Jamie Gorlick. Period.

****The 9/11 Commission has put out a very detailed memo defending itself that basically says Rep. Curt Weldon and the unnamed Navy officers who have made a big stink about Able Danger are stretching it bigtime.

Who knows what the truth is. HOWEVER did anyone really expect the 911 commission to admit guilt?

Lets see what the investigation turns up.

D'oh!

Who knows, he may be right, but we should get our ducks in a row first, and then charge ahead. Hopefully this stirring of the water will get some enterprising bloggers and reporters poking around.

We now know that there were 60-odd names on that chart. Is it really plausible that this Navy officer specifically recalled the name "Mohammed Atta" and the image of his face?

And YOU can't recall the image of his face - kinda gruesome, ain't it?

His pic really stands out against the doe-eyed, effeminate Saudi boys who did 9/11.

Every one of us remembers these pics.

Of course the Navy intel officer remembered it.

ALL OF US WOULD HAVE REMEMBERED ATTA'S PICTURE.

This guy seems to be trying too hard to condemn weldon and this whole issue. The question is why?

Maybe, but then again, the MSM hasn't buried this story the way they bury everything that might hurt Democrats. CBS had the first mention of it that I read.

Able Danger or no Able Danger, the 9/11 Commission was a sham that must be investigated.

I want all the information, and then I will decide whether Weldon is a charlatan and an idiot, or whether some members of NRO think they know more than they do, and are themselves the idiots.

Right now I don't have enough information. I am not going to allow certain members of the press to stampede me into calling Weldon an opportunist. It seems to me that Weldon has enough sense to know that if he couldn't back this information up with witnesses and documents, he would be doing harm to his country and the Republican party, not to mention his ability to stay in office.

My suggestion is that we not jump on either bandwagon, but make an effort to get the facts, including the witnesses, on the record and let the public decide what is believable and what is not.

I want open hearings with witnesses under oath, and I want those hearings televised. I do not want to have to figure this out based on second-hand accounts, "unnamed sources" in the New York Times, and the interpretation of various and sundry leftist reporters, who have demonstrated through their coverage of Cindy Sheehan that they are not interested in the truth.

"He also stated that there are 15 boxes of documents that the Commission did not see, and that the reason they did not see the documents is that they did not follow up on the information given to them in connection with the Able Danger briefing."

I recall this fact too. It seems as though Podhoretz wants to pick at a few facts and essentially condemn weldon and this whole thing, asking for an apology, etc.

I hope he's got the goods to back this up, or he's made us all look like asses.

Based on the number of changed stories coming out of the commision regarding this, I'd say he's got something. I'm not sure what it is but he couldn't possibly expect to get away with making the whole thing up.
