"This is Mrs. Cindy Sheehan, 48, of Vacaville, California. She is leading an anti-war protest outside President Bush's ranch in Texas.
She has led or been part of many other protests against the war in Iraq for the past year at least. Her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, was killed in the battle for Sadr City, Iraq, of April 4, 2004.
We published a story about that battle on October 19, 2004: 'Black Sunday' in Sadr City, April 4, 2004 We introduced our readers to Mrs. Sheehan, her protest at the time, and then described the battle for Sadr City in some depth. We recommend you read it. We will repeat now what we said then about Mrs. Sheehan's protest: "It is hurtful to see a mother lose a child in war, very hurtful. It is also hurtful to see the patriotic mother of a patriotic soldier who has sacrificed his life so angry at our president and the policy in play in Iraq, when so many tens of thousands of military forces remain in harm's way."
