Cougar snatches pet cat near Forest Park

The panicked cry of his cat sent George Clymer scrambling into his backyard.

When you're hiking in Forest Park, are you watching out for cougars? A Portland man's story could have you looking over your shoulder.

The panicked cry of his cat sent George Clymer scrambling into his backyard. "When I started walking up, I saw a large, beige animal come up and then it took off bounding into the woods."

He said he heard his cat's cries fade away as the cougar carried it off. Now, he and his partner will keep their other cat inside.

"We didn't ever give a thought that there would be a large, predatory animal coming that close to our house. We were pretty shocked by that."

Partner? Could this cougar be guilty of a hate crime now too?

There are a lot more coyotes than mountain lions, and they kill house cats all the time.

We have coyotes in immediate proximity...when they're close by the dog next door (which usually barks like all hell at anything that comes anywhere near) is as silent as the dead - it knows what would happen should it 'advertise' it's presence.

Had me really worried there for a minute . . .

Forest Park is a very urbanized close-in suburb of Atlanta - right off the end of Runway 9R of the Atlanta Airport.

This is the only kind of cougar we usually see there -

If the kitty wasn't pure bred, does that mean the cougar has the taste for Meow Mix?

Our neighbors malamute would do that too...plenty of raccoons met their death that way...

We have coyotes in town, SE WA state, they take care of the feral cats, then we take care of them with the SKS...

I saw a large, beige animal...

Leave it to a gay guy to use a decorator term for the cougar's color.

Oregon, and not very far from downtown Portland.

It's a neighborhood in Portland. SW PDX to be exact. I put Oregon in the Keyword section. Sorry about not being more clear.

My husband is far from gay and when I just asked him what color is a cougar he said "usually beige or tawny."
