Transcript of Christopher Hitchens on subject of Cindy Sheehan from Wed. night's Hardball
MSNBC's "Hardball" ^

Posted on 08/18/2005 10:18:15 AM PDT by Charlesj

O‘DONNELL: I‘m sure also the president did not anticipate that while he was spending a five-week vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, that he would be witnessing a mom, Cindy Sheehan, who has been camped outside his ranch now, demanding a meeting with the president, saying she won‘t leave until that happens.

Christopher, do you think that this represents—or she represents some sort of tipping point in public opinion in America?

HITCHENS: Certainly not. She has, just today, lied about a statement that she made several times before to the effect that her son was killed in a war run by a secret Jewish cabal within the administration. She now says she didn‘t make that statement. She did make that statement. So as well as being an hysterical paranoid ideologist, or at least being manipulated by people who are, turned this into camp fruitbag and nutbag, she has decided not to have the courage or maybe the cowardice of her conviction. She now says she didn‘t make a statement that she definitely did.

"And yet he remains unable to produce a direct quote. Perhaps he'd locate one if it got between him and a gin & tonic."

Hey troll, here's your quote from Dementia Queen Sheehan. Sounds to me like she's claiming the Jews are to blame:

Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel.

And yet if Hitchens had been, say, Molly Ivins, and had said, "Church experts who have asked to remain anonymous agree, Catholic or not Sheehan should be sainted", O'Donnell would have been nodding her head like a bobble-head doll.

ABC did not retreat, in fact they confirmed that this letter was signed by Sheehan and sent to them on her behalf.

They have asked Anderson Cooper of CNN retract his statements and apologize

"They have asked Anderson Cooper of CNN retract his statements and apologize"

Cooper just ignored it and pretended it didn't happen.

What statement did Cooper make that warrants an apology?

I got the impression that all of them - O'Donnell, Finneman and Hitchens -- were all on the same page.

The tide is turning against Cindy.

Yeah... That was my impression too.

It was like O'Donnell and Fineman didn't want to say it as plainly as Hitchens, but they seemed to agree that Sheehan is a moonbat.

"I think our profession should stop acting as her megaphone. Until I published her real political opinions in Slate yesterday, she had to answer no more questions than, how does it feel? OK? I object. I shouldn‘t have had to do that.

I said, this woman is mouthing the most sinister piffle from Michael Moore and David Duke. She should be held responsible for what she thinks. When she was asked about it finally by Anderson Cooper yesterday, she said, I didn‘t say it. She‘s also a liar."

How dare Hitchens challenge St. Cindy's views? Doesn't he know she has "absolute moral authority" to say what she wants and no one else is allowed to say anything about it?

Fineman says that the ground is shifting under Bush's feet re. Iraq. Ok Howard, but we know that the opinion polls are rigged (grossly oversurveying dems) and that Cindy is a liar and, well, just a mouth piece for the same ole groups with the same ole messages.

I think, Howard, you will find that if the ground is shifting anywhere, it is under the feet of Ms. Sheehan and her mouthpieces.

Howard, the anti-war schtick has rarely brought any party to power.

Exactly! That's what I was thinking......neither one of them said one word to disagree with him!

He was FABULOUS; I find myself agreeing with him so many times, it scares me.......LOL.
