Margot Kidder becomes naturalized citizen in Butte, MT [to protest war in Iraq]
Billings Gazette ^ | August 18, 2005

BUTTE -- Actress Margot Kidder became a citizen of the U.S. Wednesday to avoid possible deportation to her native Canada when she begins protesting the war in Iraq, she said.

Kidder, best known for playing Lois Lane in the motion picture "Superman," was among 19 people who became citizens during a naturalization ceremony in federal court here.

"It means I can vote against anyone and everyone in elected office that in any way supported the Bush administration," said Kidder, 56, who has lived in this country for 34 years and has a residence in Livingston.

Dave Routzahn, director of the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Helena, vouched for her and the 18 other applicants. He said they have displayed good moral character, have been living in this country and are dedicated to its form of government.

Kidder said in an interview after the ceremony that her sole motivation was to protest the war in Iraq. She also criticized the Gulf War in the 1990s.

Margot Kidder

From CelebAtheists

Actor

In a February 2000 TV Guide article written by Rich Brown, Kidder is quoted as saying:

"I went through millions of dollars -- I have no idea how much. I'd buy things for friends, take people to Paris. Once I stayed up for three weeks in a row because I felt like I was called upon to write a new religion for women. I was reading all these books, including the Bible -- and I'm an atheist."

- 22-Oct-01 - Interviewed for an article on the Christian movie industry, Kidder had this to say about her involvement in "Tribulation", a "rapture" film:

"I was broke, and I said to my agent, 'Get me a job.' When I read the script, I thought it was this strange thriller. It really wsn't until I was on the set that I realised these guys were serious. You can't imagine my horror. You know, this is an acting trick, but when I play a baddie in a movie I usually wear a cross. That's what I think of organised religion. And now, since being in this movie, I keep getting fan letters from Christians saying, ' We're glad you saw the light. Would you like to come speak at our church?' Before this, my fan base was mostly prisoners." ("Lights! Camera! Rapture!" by Sott Spencer, The New Yorker, Sept 10 2001, p108)

She went completely crazy a few years ago, was found wandering around and disoriented, she's a perfect candidate to be a Democrat AND a war protestor!
This is all about attention and reviving her ever-faltering "career".

Curious if she kept her Canadian citizenship as well. Have known of a few who have gone to Canada, became citizens but kept their American citizenship.

I have a real problem with that.

How does anyone pledge allegiance to two countries. Am I missing something here?

To whom it may concern,

I sit here still reeling in horrified shock from the ridiculously inaccurate and stupendously stupid “biography” of myself that you aired on A&E last night. To have given your producer, Jane Petrov, unparalleled access to my life, my friends and family, and myself, only to discover that in spite of the information she was given she insisted on making a sleazy, ludicrously morbid, and disingenuously one-sided portrait of a life that has, in fact, been filled with great joy and rare blessings, was deeply unsettling at best. It was repeatedly pointed out to Ms. Petrov that in spite of my periodic bungee-jumps into craziness, my life has been filled with love, laughter, adventure, accomplishment, and staunchly supportive friends and family, and that it in no way can be described as a failure or a tragedy.

To address all the inaccuracies, big and small, would take hours, but there are two, which Ms. Petrov is well aware of, that I feel obliged to bring up: 1) I did not become politically active because my career was floundering – I became politically active at a very young age after an illegal abortion, which was why I brought it up, and my political work, with the peace movement, with Amnesty International, with the Women’s Movement, with the Jesse Jackson campaign, and now, with Patient’s Right’s organizations, has always been at least as important to me as my acting work; 2) People diagnosed with this or that “mental illness” usually have long periods of normalcy in their lives, as I have had, and are not bizarre and unrelentingly heart-breaking souls devoid of humour or gratitude for the glories of this wondrous thing called Life. We are not mysteriously odd – we are human beings, just like you, with chemical malfunctions that periodically cause us to behave in seemingly incomprehensible ways. When the chemical imbalance is righted, as hundreds of thousands of us have been lucky enough to be able to do with the help of a strictly scientific practice known as Orthomolecular Medicine, our lives are fully restored and we become, in the deepest sense of the word, WELL. I have been well and free of the symptoms that are called manic-depression for almost five years, and have been working steadily and leading a happy and productive life since then. To have so profoundly mis-represented what mental illness is about is not just a disservice to myself, it is an insult to the millions of human beings on our planet living with the already inane and destructive stigma of the labels given them by the psychiatric profession. For A&E to perpetrate such stereotypes by presenting a life, any life, in such a lop-sided and moronically soap-opera-ish fashion not even worthy of the National Enquirer, is irresponsible, disrespectful, and in no small way cruel. I am disappointed that a reputable company such as yours would do such a thing.

Please do not air this hour of idiocy again.

Sincerely,

Margot Kidder

More proof that the Democrat Party has now become the Granola Party. Nothing but fruits, nuts and flakes.

Isn't she supposed to be mentally ill in some way? I'm serious; I thought that a while ago there was some news about that.

Doesn't the INS have ANY rules covering who can and who can't become a naturalized citizen, with mental illness being a disqualifier?

THANK YOU! As I was scrolling through posts, I was wondering if any one else remembered this incident. Yet another moonbat. But this one seems to have a real mental illness. . .

Friday's your lucky day. I just happened to see that she's in "Cool Money" on USA Friday at 8:00AM.

I'll think I'll set the recorder for the 1963 Jill St. John movie on AMC instead, inspite of it being a Jerry Lewis
flick...

When not involved in entertainment activities, Kidder has been an outspoken and widely recognized supporter of the peace movement, and has distinguished herself by campaigning in thirteen states for a bilateral nuclear freeze. She also traveled to Argentina in 1986 on behalf of Amnesty International. In the 1980's, her increased profile as an activist led her to serve as a surrogate speaker for the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and to attend the Democratic National Conventions of 1984 and 1988 as both participant and reporter.

She's been a nut job for a long time!

Gee, I'm glad to know she is so dedicated to America and its values. Why couldn't she say that she loves her new country and its freedoms and constitutional order, and will use that to protest the war in Iraq? But I suppose that would be too classy a way to do this for one of the Hollywood loser crowd...
