Good points Johnb838 ...
What if... the Government/police do not believe Joran can possibly be guilty .. could not possibly be involved in a deadly date-rape etc.... (he could be viewed as a "favored son")..
What if ... the cover-ups and the fire were all to "help" Joran and his father ...
All because the government/police/'ruling" class all believe that Jordan is innocent and that the "crazy" Americans are trying to "pin" this on him...
Just food for thought...

They'll never know for sure unless they investigate, will they? Actually, with all the "mishaps" working in favor of the number one suspect, I think it's a pretty good guess that they think he's guilty of something..

Oh course you are right... however.. they don't have the capacity to investigate..they threw the case from the beginning.. they maybe thinking that Joran was in the wrong place at the wrong time... plus.. he is "one of them" (what ever that means)..
I don't know this for sure.. but I bet people are missing all the time from the Caribbean Islands.. so a quick surface "investigation" suffices... Now this is only different due to Natalee's family...
Now if Beth was not so articulate, attractive and committed.... supported by a ton of family and friends.. showcased hourly by the US media.. Natalee would be forgotten.. it would become a cold case asap.. or perhaps the two Security would still be detained...
The difference in this case is Beth.. if I were ever missing.. I just hope that some one like Beth is there for me!

They have to be getting pretty worried with Sept. 4 rolling around soon. All they'll have to show for their "investigating", I believe, is paperwork from following Beth and Jug around the island.

Do you think due to the elections that they will just hold him for another 30 days? Then let him walk? If he walks they can string it out for two years without revealing any of the 'evidence' in the case.

I feel that too much of the stuff the goonberment is doing could potentially open the individuals involved to serious criminal charges themselves if any serious investigation were ever done for them to do it all just as a favor to a friend.
