The thing that REALLY pi&&es them off is the fact that Israel has taken land that was almost completely barren and turned it into a thriving agricultural hotspot.

Abbas: Gaza Pullout Result of Patience

By Associated Press

August 19, 2005, 11:59 AM EDT

RAFAH, Gaza Strip -- Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said Friday that Israel's Gaza pullout resulted from Palestinian "sacrifices" and "patience."

Abbas also promised to rebuild houses in Gaza destroyed by Israel. He made his comments before thousands of cheering Palestinians at Gaza's closed airport.

"This pullout is a result of our sacrifice, of our patience, the sacrifice of our people, the steadfastness, and the wise people of our nation," Abbas said.

Expected, but very disturbing.

Who knows what he is going to do next,

My guess is now that many Pal. terrorists are grouped into one small target area, KA-BOOM, assuming the terrorism doesn't stop. And it won't...

...it's internal conflict between its own various political and religious factions.

Just like in days of old. What will it take?

The biggest threat to Israel's existence is not Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Palestinian terrorists, etc. -- it's internal conflict between its own various political and religious factions.

Sadly, that seems to be a problem inherent in all democracies . . .

However, I do think that after the Gaza pullout, any ensuing Palestinian violence will unify the Israelis. The appeasers will realize (even if it is temporary) that appeasement was ineffective and will realize (again, temporarily) that you cannot negotiate with terrorists.

I think we'll see Ehud Barak and Shimon Perez arm in arm with Netanyahu and Sharon, calling for retaliation. I have already heard Barak saying that was the next step if Abbas did not hold up his end of the bargain. And with the settlers out of there, they can blast the junk out of Gaza . . .

I don't know, but Israelis pulling Israelis out of a synagogue is a pretty powerful image . . .

As of today, Israel's most serious exposure to terrorism comes not from Gaza, but from the West Bank.

This is why the Israeli government insisted on vacating those settlements. Having those settlements in an area surrounded by Palestinians represents a major security problem.

Yes, there is something to turning a mixed, well surveyed, problem area into a free fire zone.

Indeed. There an old Arab complaint, "You let just one Jew into the neighborhood and pretty soon they take over and turn the desert into a damned oasis."

PA president Mahmound Abbas gave a speech at the Gaza Airport commenting on the Gaza pullout..

Essentially, he gave no credit to Sharon, or the Israeli government for making this "gesture to peace"..

Instead, he credited the pullout to "Palestinian Sacrifice"..
That could mean a lot of things, but it most probably means, "keep killing jews"...

Sharon changed the equation of the never-ending "peace process" by building the wall and by getting the settlers out of Gaza. He is done negotiating with terrorists. Who knows what he is going to do next, but he isn't taking orders from George Bush, that's for sure.

I'm hoping that Sharon has a specific plan / agenda in mind...
I'm hoping this isn't some stupid hope that trading "land for peace" will work..
It has never worked and never will..

My thought has been that Sharon understands the Pali mind well enough to know they will be unable to resist continuing their attacks on Israel..

Sharon will then be on "high ground" when he institutes a "massive retaliation" and drives the arabs out of Gaza..
All of them..
Permanently..

Absolutely. I agree with you, Alberta's Child, the West Bank is Israel's most difficult problem—and Jerusalem lies at the crux of that problem. They can't give it up . . .

With the troops out of Gaza they can reinforce the West Bank, which is good. The negative is that the Gaza settlements are psychological strongholds for the Israelis, respresenting hard fought territories. But I think that will go a long way to uniting them when (not if) the Palestinians violate the terms of the roadmap.

Does "Palestinian sacrifices" translate in "exploding martyrs"?

Now you can have your very own!

To: Not now, Not ever!

That's for sure! I love what Winston Churchill said . . . "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile—hoping it will eat him last."

The appeasing faction of Israel is about to find out (again) that this crocodile is never filled—no matter what offerings you throw at it.

He also said:
"A nation that forgets its past is doomed to repeat it."

You would think these "moderates" would have learned the character of the Palestinians by now. Sad that they have not . . .
