CORZINE GAL-PAL LOAN A CRIME: LAWYER

August 19, 2005 -- PRINCETON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Sen. Jon Corzine, New Jersey's Democratic gubernatorial candidate, committed a federal felony by failing to disclose a half-million-dollar loan he'd made to the powerful union boss who was his girlfriend, a public-interest lawyer charged yesterday. "There is no 'girlfriend loophole,' " said Bruce Afran, adding that he planned to officially complain to the Senate. "One of the highest-ranking union officers in the state is given a half-million-dollar gift by a sitting U.S. senator. That is precisely the type of transaction the Senate wants to know about."

He said he and his partner were preparing to file a complaint, accusing Corzine of falsifying a disclosure document, with the Senate Ethics Committee.

The crime is punishable by up to five years in federal prison.

Corzine lent $470,000 to Carla Katz, president of Communications Workers of America Local 1034, while the two were dating.

He canceled the mortgage loan around the time he announced his candidacy for governor. The union later endorsed Corzine, who is running against Republican Doug Forrester. AP

Hmmmm...this could have legs (perhaps not as lovely as Ms. Katz's, but pretty nice nonetheless).

I simply refuse to believe that there's corruption in New Jersey.

I'm skeptical that any Federal prosecutor will take Corzine on. I hope so, but I doubt it.

One can only hope that this affair does not divert attention away from the most urgent problem affecting New Jersey:

Black Bear Proliferation

O, you may laugh, but it's getting so bad you can't even dump a body in the woods after dark.

If Tom DeLay did this, we would actually be hearing about it.

Just put Corzine in the same catagory as Sandy Berger and Toricelli and others that just get slaps on the wrist..

BUT, I guarantee that if this was a REP. Senator, he would already be up in front of the ethics committee, and a letter would be signed asking for the Justice Dept. to investigate...

No question: if this were a (conservative) Republican like Santorum or Delay, the Times would have at least three reporters on the case with daily front page stories.

And it is expected that the Senate Club will do what? Good old boy, good old boy club will do the same thing that they did with the renegade Clinton.......

Democrats have boxes of vigil candles stored just for stories like this. Those candles are multi-purpose. For dems. they're "We're praying and supporting you" candles. For Republicans they're "Get the hell out NOW" candles.

It's a joke that they still try to claim there is no media bias. Just tonight David Gregory asked the question of his guest (I can't remember who it was) "IF" Cindy Sheehan got involved with "any far left groups" would she be "fair game". Either he is stupid or a liar because she has BEEN INVOLVED with FAR LEFT GROUPS from the start of her GET BUSH/sympathy tour.
