New uses for Blackberrrys, PDAs soon

Looks like PDA use is soaring and new applications are coming too.

Next year wireless carriers plan to introduce a number of new technologies including bandwidth-on-demand, instant replay, and real-time updating of pre-paid accounts. Bandwidth-on-demand will enable users to purchase high-speed downloads such as movies and load them onto a PDA before they board a plane for a cross-country flight. The instant-replay technology will allow consumers, watching a live sporting event at a stadium, to use their handhelds to connect to a stadium's wireless system and watch an instant replay of the spectacular play they witnessed. Those with pre-paid minutes will be able to update their services live without having to interrupt whatever they are doing on the PDA at that time.

One of my faorite features is used when I get out of work before Mrs. Pharmboy and I need to stop at the supermarket and pick up a few things. She emails the list to me and I read it from my Blackberry in the aisles.

They're in the process of getting rid of our pagers and cell phones at work and issuing everyone Blackberrys instead.

about time. I'm still always surprised at how many meetings I sit in where there are 30 people there with their big fat day planners and only me with my Pocket PC. It's not hard to write on once you get the hang of it. I hope the new innovations are actually useful and not just a bunch of games and crap.

Yet some of us prefer pen on paper, simple as that.

I have a Treo, a laptop, a desktop, a this, a that...I still like to lay out the week, month, year or project on paper. It's an entirely different process--a different medium, if you will. Brian Tracy speaks of "thinking on paper," and there is something to that.

Big fat day planners are more impressive. People with them must certainly be very busy and important. It reminds me of Clinton's bible which was as big as the Manhattan phone book.

Some of us like to actually leave the office at the office. Get a life. Not to flip out on you, because you were probably just making a joke, but this technology gives me more of a life than I was able to have without it. I can work from anywhere. I carry two Palm One Treos around with me everywhere I go. When I first started my company and had to do everything myself, I was basically housebound by my work. I always had to be within a certain distance of a computer. These phones gave me the ability to actually go out and have that life that people so desperately are trying to 'get' all the time... :)

hmmm... I'm posting from an Ipaq. FR reflows perfectly on my pda, no scrolling horiz. at all.

I absolutely agree. My job requires pretty much constant availability at least 3 weeks out of the month- if I didn't have my laptop or my pocket PC I would be hard pressed to get a day out of the office. I can now take my kids to the lake, spend a day with my wife, whatever.

The "gadgets" give me a life, thank your very much.

Besides- they really are cool as hell!

Amazing!!

I love using our PC, sending and receiving e-mail, surfing but good grief, there is a life worth enjoying that they do not include. How can anyone kick back and relax when they are so accessible. I can see being constantly accessible if your business depends on it.

Husband just cleared out under a grove of Poplar trees about 200 yards from the house just so we can feel isolated and enjoy the quiet. Fire pit, hammock comfy chairs and a good book.

No wonder so many people are so stressed out they are medicated.
