BTTT
My religion resides within me. I don't need a church/synagogue/temple/mosque to justify my existence. Sorry but my church can't afford a $700.000 car nor does it want to. Get the point? Actually not trying to sound sarcastic.
LOL don't you have a job? That's a good one.
Oprah to "jump the couch?"
:-O
Someone help me out. When was the last time a Tom Cruise film recouped its production and promotion costs. Was it "The Last Samurai"? Certainly not "Vanilla Sky" or the "Minority Report". Seems that his recent outings have been more "Far and Away" than "Jerry Maguire". Perhaps Scientology has dimmed his star power. (Love your screen name, Types!)
And that's just her acting.
Her name is Sweet ride? Beautiful Ride? She's going to need counciling over that alone.
They adopt it because it appeals to their egos. Any religion that promises to reveal to you the secrets of the universe is what anyone with that much pride will go for.
Yes there is always electricity in the air when those two meet. If he really wants her in Scientology why doesn't he dump Katie and date Oprah?
OMG...I just ruined my computer laughing.
There is a Church of Oprah ( more profitable than Scientology). No need to convert.
LOL! You nailed it!
The Last Samurai cost 170 million dollars to produce and promote (140m to produce and promote, plus 30 m in additional marketing cost), but made 111 million dollars in the US box office and 346 million dollars in the overseas market. That is a total take, in the box office alone, of 456.8 million dollars! However it should be noted that nowadays most movies make their money from DVD sales, something that the Last Samurai managed to do well enough. It is DVD sales that make the movie nowadays, exceeding the box office tallies for both flops and blockbusters. Hence not only did the Last Samurai make money at the box office, to more than recoup its costs, but it also made money in DVD sales.
As for Vanilla Sky (which I thought sucked in a rather convoluted manner) cost 115 million to make and market. It's US receipts in the box office were 100.6 million, and it also made 102.8 million in the foreign market, to make a total of 203 million dollars. Thus it got its money back and more. Add DVD sales to this and it made money.
Minority Report. This movie cost 142 million dollars to make and promote (102m to produce, 40 to promote and market). In the US box office it brought in 132 million dollars, and in the foreign box office it made 226 million bucks. A total of 358 million, and thus more than making its money back. Again, add DVD sales to this and Cruise smiles all the way to the bank (he has this weird back-end deals that make him more money than he takes home as an actor. Most of his money comes from such deals not from his actor's paycheck).
Even Far and Away made its money. That flick cost 60 million to make, and brought in 58.8 million in the US box office and 78.9 million in the foreign, to a total of 137.8 million dollars. Not that far and away I'd say.
And now take War of the Worlds, Tom Cruise's latest endeavor. That movie cost between 128-135 million dollars to make, but as of now it has made over 230 million dollars. And this is at the US box office alone, meaning that it has been profitable without having to add in the DVD sales multiplier. When the movie comes out on DVD you can expect it to make more money, and because of their 'back-end' deals Spielberg and Cruise will also have their coffers increased.
Hence I wouldn't say that Tom's star has been dimmed (although anyone who goes for that star biz needs help IMO). I'd almost say he is the most bankable star in HollyWeird at the moment. That is not to say he is not kooky like a Pomeranian in heat, but he still brings in the cash.
As for box office sales let me put it like this. Unless a movie has returns like Spiderman (whcih broke the box office in terms of the loads of money it brought in), people will say a movie failed. Particularly if certain actors are in it. Has the movie failed? Maybe it has not met expectation, but many of these 'failed' movies end up doing quite well. Take Titanic for example. That movie has made almost 2 billion dollars in the box office (the actual figure is 1,845,034,188), but it only had an opening weekend of 28 million December of 97. This made people say it had 'failed,' especially since it had cost 200 million to make (not including marketing costs, which came to about 40 million). But because it had a 28 million opening weekend people said it had failed. Close to 2 billion dollars later most of those people have since kept quiet.
I would disagree. The New Agers used her because of the size of her audience, and Oprah became the force that spread that movement, which is world-wide and growing rapidly. Cruise knows this and would love to turn Oprah into a mouthpiece for Scientology, which is not far-removed from the New Age movement.
Has this weird back-end deals that ... = has these weird back-end deals that ...
I just got the latest figures for War of the Worlds. It has made 230 million in the US box office, 333 million in the foreign box office, to a total of 563 million dollars.
