'Christian' Pat Robertson calls for the assassination of Venezuela's President Chavez

hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.

In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:

There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.

It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.

We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.

We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.

We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

Funny thing is the DUmmies were just commenting today what a great leader Chavez is. A great man of the people like Castro. The only people that hate him are the rich and powerful. I think I'll stick with Pat on this one.

"I take it that unlike Liberia there's no diamond mines in Venezuela "

Ouch. That's definitely going to leave a mark. May I suggest an ice pack to take down the swelling?

Oh it's damage alright and Pat is so far out of line it's unbelievable. But I doubt with the bloodlust at a high among Republicans unfortunately you won't see much condemnation of Pat.

Has your head been in the sand? This despot INVITED TERROR supporting nations to conferences, plus he has said that he will support fighting against the "oppressive" USA.

Chavez has ALREADY killed in his own country..HE WILL help get Americans killed. He has and will torture and kill his own people. Have you NOT read the scripture that admonishes that we are to "rescue the perishing"? How is it murder to STOP a murderer?

It's sad watching Christians sell their souls to the GOP and the neo-con movement.

Sheer conjecture. Remember -- the Italians were 95% Catholic, as were many Germans and other Europeans.

Mussolini was Italian too, you think he'd answer anything but "yes sir" if Hitler told him to level the Vatican.

Also, look at what happened in Catholic France in the eighteenth century, and in Catholic Spain and Mexico in the twentieth century. Sometimes Catholic countries are the Church's worst enemies.

The left can go sing "Kumbaya" with the likes of Chavez and Castro all they want, it still doesn't change things.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

What's Christ got to do with this? Free men acting in defense of freedom against a socio-fascist dictator is definitely a Christian act.

This guy is a war veteran too...

This is one of the few pastors who express their personal opinion in public... without considering the tendency of creating confusions on the Christian Evangelical's follower's or even drawing criticisms.

Pat, i would suggest that you keep complicated things personal rather than public...

I just find a hypocrisy between a man who claims to represent the Kingdom of Christ and the same man advocating assignation.

Do you believe the Bible?

Read the parts where God advocates Israel wiping out it's enemies completely and totally.

Do you believe Christ is God incarnate?

Is God a hypocrite?

I would disagree. There is nothing unGodly or unBiblical to pray that God either change a man's heart or take him out.

I am a christian and I believe Mugabe should be assassinated. Chavez I don't know...he's just not genocidal. But an opportunity to assassinate Hitler or Stalin or Lenin or Pol Pot etc...?

I just don't have a problem with that.

What a DUMB remark. I will grant that it may not be the best judgment for a minister to utter such, but it is idiotic to suggest that taking out a terrorist is "bloodlust". The head-in-sand Libertarian view of the world is akin to what the world faced before WW11, and the lack of proactive dealing with the despot Hitler resulted in MILLIONS upon MILLIONS dying. This cover-our-eyes-and-ears thinking can be DEADLY...to us.

Pat Robertson's just another preacher ~ in a division of Christianity that does not draw a class distinction between the professional clergy and the members.

AMEN !!!!! In the late 1930's Churchill was asked what should be done about Hitler (this was BEFORE he had even invaded the Rhineland or Poland and was still rather weak). Churchill replied that you should pluck a weed before it ruins the garden. If the world had listened to Churchill, MILLIONS of lives would have been saved.

By that logic, America can assassinate every evil leader, from Chavez to Mugabe to the Saudi princes to every leader of every Middle East country. I don't believe that is the way America should go.
