Brooklyn Jews, I was raised a Democrat, voted Democrat for years and years, and believed, absolutely, that Republicans were evil. Thats what we were taught from birth, right? Democrats are for the poor and the oppressed, and Republicans are for rich people and big corporations. Who questioned such sophisticated political analysis?
There. Fixed by a Philly non-religious Jew who was raised the same way.

A very good reason to stop going to the movies Hollywood produces. That, and the fact that most of the movies are sooooo lame.

My agent, a wonderful woman, told me, Just do what they want and walk. Its only a movie.
....Yeah right, it only would've been just another
anti-America propaganda hit piece brokered by Satans agent. Get real

The guy is either incredibly disengenuous or incredibly naive. Anyone who has been in H'wood more than eight seconds understands that films have to be aimed at an international market.

The presidency of Jimmy Carter was the last straw. The man was truly ineffectual. I switched to the Republicans and never looked back. For me, it was the ascendancy of Bill Clinton in the party I grew up supporting. I supported Democrats until the summer of '92. When I saw what was coming down the pike of the party I had joined, I walked away. For the first time I voted Republican.
Of course, I lost that election. And I lost in '96, too.
But 2000 and 2004 have been real nice. :)

I have been hired to write a bio-pic about a very famous Republican talk-show host. A man who has revolutionized the radio format. I decide that Im going to be up front with the studio executives.
Im not going to assassinate this man, I explain. If thats what you want, get another writer.
No, no, we want you to do it because you have such a good feel for character. Just be honest...
I go off and write the script. I hand it in and walk into a firestorm of a meeting. Ive been too gentle with the talk-show host, they say.
How? I ask.
Well, look at what hes done to this country, an executive challenges.
What, he has 25 million daily listeners who adore him. Whats he ever done except almost self-destruct on pain killers which I portray in all its awful detail.
But hes a hypocrite!
In what way?
Well, he talks about family values and look how many times hes been divorced!
Have they read the script? The script goes into why the man cannot make a true love match. Hes a sad man. Hes a lonely man.
I ask a really stupid question: Have any of you ever listened to him?
They gaze at me as if Im last weeks trash.
Just as I suspected. Not one of them has ever listened to his show. They all agree hes not worth listening to.
A few weeks later Im replaced by a writer whos a well-known Democrat. My agent tells me that this new writer is absolutely murdering this decent talk show host. Making stuff up, no doubt.
Are we to expect a faux Hollywood biopic about Rush ??

Very interesting. I hope the author of this essay puts aside some of his scriptwriting, and writes a book about all this. I liked so much of what he wrote, including this:
...I was raised a Democrat, voted Democrat for years and years, and believed, absolutely, that Republicans were evil. Thats what we were taught from birth, right? Democrats are for the poor and the oppressed, and Republicans are for rich people and big corporations. Who questioned such sophisticated political analysis?
Yes, he's right -- that truly is about the highest level of political sophistication ever reached by some people!
LOL... Thanks for taking the time to post this great essay. :)

I guess this means we can expect a liberal, trashy movie about Rush. Yep, that will increase their box office.
I wonder who they will get to direct it, Oliver Stone?

Thank you for posting. I missed it the other two times because, although I am on FR a LOT, I am not here 24/7. This article made me want to cry. I was a lonely little kid and I watched AMC for company. I grew up loving the movies and in the last 4 years I have been to the theater 4 or 5 times. I hate what the left has done to a once great institution. I hope an alternative devolpes and saves the industry. Mel Gibson gives me some hope.

The Devil's Arithmetic I betcha his script on Rush would have gotten a pretty good audiance. The new one is going to bomb. Eventually, Hollywood is going to have to wake up to the reality that money is no longer falling from the sky.
"24" btw is doing pretty good with its rather non-PC portrayal of Islamic terrorists.

Hollywood, once upon a time, was one of the most patriotic colonies on the planet. During World War II, Frank Capra made a series of propaganda films titled Why We Fight. Marlene Dietrich put herself through a most grueling schedule visiting and entertaining our troops and selling war bonds. Jimmy Stewart joined the Air Force. Numerous movie stars put their careers on hold to help the war effort. These men and women loved America and understood who the enemy was and why the enemy had to be not only defeated but obliterated from the face of the earth. It was during the WWII period that Hollywood people became known as the beautiful people. It wasn't because of plastic surgery or fake boobs -- it was for raising war bond money. They were part of us and we were part of them. And we admired them...
Now, Hollywood is peopled by the ugly people, the self absorbed, the petty, the drug addicted, the unpatriotic. And movie wonder why no one wants to watch them...

These Hollywood liberals spend their lives negotiating. They believe that when the time comes they will sit down with Osama bin Laden and cut a deal. Imagine how surprised theyll be when the cold blade hits their necks. Imagine their shock when they realize there is no negotiating with barbarians; that Osama makes no distinctions between Democrats and Republicans, between observant Jew and Buddhist chanting Jew. I hope it never comes to that, but imagine such a story line. Actually, it would make a pretty good movie. I should try and pitch it.
I'll buy a ticket to see it...
