In 1976, my wife's cousin, then just 21 years old, shot and killed a would-be rapist who broke into her apartment in Houston. The 300 lb intruder kicked the door in at 3AM, confronted her with his intentions, and declared, "You wouldn't shoot me, you little ****." Those were his last words, she hit him twice, in the neck and above the right eye, with a .45 auto. The grand jury hearing was strictly routine, required by law after all fatal shootings, and resulted in a quick no-bill.

I don't care what state you're in, if you shoot and kill someone, the DA, and law enforcement, and I don't give a damn what state you live in, will investigate every aspect of the shooting to determine if it was a legitimate shoot. Even in Texas, you shoot someone, and the DA and law enforcement will investigate the shooting. Period.
