The purpose of bail is to ensure the defendent returns to court for the trial.
If the judge felt that the child should not be granted bail because he was a threat he should have refused bail.
However, it appears that what the kid did wasn't a violent act and there's no evidence that releasing him poses a danger to the community.
Setting bail at $250,000 is completely inappropriate.
The kid deserves a trial, and to be punished appropriately for his crime, but the judge has no business making examples of people with bail hearings.
This shoild be appealed, and tossed out, and the judge should be reprimanded.
Hopefully the police find out how he got the gun and hold the appropriate adult responsible in this case as well.
