Latest Information Regarding Tomorrow's Event in Crawford
basil ^ | Aug 26, 2005 | basil

Rally Eve has arrived, and things are really looking good for the event in Crawford tomorrow. An awful lot of preparation has gone into trying to make this event very worthwhile and well run.

Some of us will be at the rally site by 9AM. If others are coming early, you are invited to come on by our rally site, and lend a hand in last minute preparations. Whatever time you come, use lots of sunscreen, bring a good supply of water, and wear a sun hat , The weather is predicted to be well over 100 degrees, with high humidity. There will be big fans set up to at least stir the air a bit, but be prepared to be hot. It is, after all, August in Texas.

Once again, here is where to find us: We will be at the Community Center, which is next to the Crawford High School football stadium, on East 4th Street. Freepers and friends who are already on site will be placing directional signs around Crawford, guiding folks to our site. Of course, there's always the possibility that these signs will be removed or destroyed by the other side--but we are trying to make it easy for everyone to find our event.

At this point, we have no idea how many will show up, of course. I've seen all sorts of estimates---but from experience, I know these estimates are always hugely overblown. However many show up is how many we will have is my best estimate--LOL!

We have an excellent lineup of speakers--most of whom are family of active duty service men and women in the Middle East now, and we have at least one man who will speak, who did at least one tour in Iraq himself, but who, sadly, buried his twin brother in June--the victim of a gun battle between US Forces and the terrorists.

A group of firemen will be cooking and serving Barbequed brisket and sausage on the grounds. We are asking for a freewill donation to cover the firemen's cost when you get your barbeque.

Angelwood has provided us with some of her wonderful Freeper buttons to pass around, and freeper W04 (I can't remember all of his name--will look it up and add it later), has sent some excellent, very large banners that we hope to be able to put across the front of the stage.

Kristinn has been in Crawford since Wednesday, making all the important arrangements for procurring all things necessary for putting on a rally of this magnitude. Doctor Raoul will once again be joining us.

Hope to meet and greet a whole lot of Freepers tomorrow!

EAGLES UP!

The Freeper who sent the wonderful banners is W04Man. Let's hear a big round of applause for him! He is retired military, btw--and officer, and I'm sure, a gentleman!

Let's hear a big round of applause for him!

Just played a sound file...could y'all hear it.

Great work. Stay safe and as cool aspossible.

Here's a tip - get spray bottles and fill with water. Spray on skin and the evaporation will cool you down. Also a wet towel around the neck can provide some relief.

A congressional act was not required to make W04Man a gentleman. W04Man had bypass sugery earlier this year and has been unable to be in the streets with DC Chapter. This is probably slowing his recovery. It's wonderful that he could participate in your event.

Do you have an any idea how many are making their track to Crawford by caravan? Surely there must be some sort of count by now!

C-Span covers DC events. They only go into the field with their school bus.

I spent Mon and Tue with commercial fisherman in Port Orford OREGON helping train them to US Coast Guard safety regulations.

I spent Thur inspecting a 49' boat.

I can't be in Texas BUT I have directly supported the US Coast Guard EVERY week since Oct 2001.
