If the evac route was near my home, I would open my home up to the stranded. I'm sure there are poor people who just got into cars not knowing whether they had anyplace to go. I know I would just leave. Live in my car if I had to. We are all Americans. We need to help any way that we can.

The governor and the mayor of New Orleans do not look competent. That seems to be an understatement.
The governor has that deer in the headlights look. If she's a republican, I'm ashamed, but I'd bet the farm she's a dim dem.
Correct. She defeated the exceptionally competent Bobby Jindal, now a Congressman.

Power will probably be out for weeks. Maybe they can stay dry, but that's about it.

Who's bandwidth?.... Pictures aren't archived or hosted on the FR servers or they didn't used to be. They aren't, but they're also not hosted on each FReeper's computer. That's the bandwidth that's being saved each time we refresh the thread.

The main problem with high rise hotels is that the windows do not open. So once the A/C goes off in a hot, humid situation, the conditions can become stifling.I don't think there will be many windows left to open after the wind hits anyway.

"They had better open most of the doors at the Dome during the storm or it could crush like a tin can from the pressure. "I hadn't thought of that.

The model shift to New Orleans and vicinity occured with the 12Z runs on FRIDAY, (models coming out around noon Friday) not on Saturday...and have remained steady ever since.

You bring up a point I can't figure out. From what I understand once the city floods, the water doesn't get out anytime soon (the guy from LSU said 90 days). Once the water level rises above the entry points of the Superdome how is anyone or thing going to get in or out? I would like to think somebody has thought of this, but you never know.

Ever try to get a 300 KB embedded picture over a dial-up connection? It's hard. The picture restriction is just as a courtesy to the people on dial up.

Too bad they can't get a live band in there. Maybe they could play "Nearer My God To Thee"... I was thinking of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald:
Does anyone know where the love of God goes
when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
No cheers, unfortunately. Lots of prayers.

This is going to send the price of lumber, steel and cement sky high. not to mention the cost of heating oil and fuel for our automobiles...... at least if we allowed offshore drilling in California there would be a backup...

I don't think even Andrew can hold a candle to what this thing is gonna do.I think you're right. This one's going to hurt bad for years I suspect.

In the end, we are Americans, and Americans are notoriously difficult to kill. I liked this. I thought it bore repeating.
