I havent been watching even though its been on all day.
It looked to me like it would mis Fla and hit La squarely

It hit around the Broward/Palm Beach county line as a Cat-1 or Cat-2 storm and moved across the peninsula and out into the gulf.

It was originally forecast to turn north and come across the FL panhandle and follow the east side of the appalachians north. But it decided to stay stay in the gulf and gain strength, being attracted by a break in the subtropical ridge, which just happened to be right over N.O.
