About +/- four hours till darkness falls.
sincere yikes
I kinda doubt this presser would be talking about evacuating the city w/o some definitive information regarding the stability of the levees.

I just listened to that news conference by the LA Governor and it is beyond my comprehension that they really didn't, and seemingly still don't have a plan for this scenario.

"Just lake water" is a good thing, because that means it's not river water. If the river breaks into the city, it's all over.

Question asked of the Governor. Is it weeks or months before they can move back in? Weeks before assessment... some homes may not be habitable structurally.

This is what you asked for from the last thread: Their projections including losing refineries and offshore pumping and then China taking the opportunity to up the antie and buying oil Mid-Atlantic that Russia was sending to us (at a higher price), putting a dent in home heating reserves and a particularly cold winter without adequate oil supplies to get everyone through this.
Maybe they will re-show it -- pretty sobering. Bottom line is this is the kind of disaster China has been waiting to befall us to give them the upper hand in the energy markets.

Looks like the worst case scenario for New Orleans is indeed happening. The health hazards and other dangers will make the city untenable for weeks.

Just below that picture (reposted below) is the
lock holding back the Mississippi from Lake Ponchartrain, the Lake 14 feet lower than the Mississippi. The question is, is or is not that lock still in place?
It appears to me that it is not, and that the Mississippi is indeed flowing into Eastern NO.

I'd like to say some prayers for the souls lost and those trapped right now and that if they pump out the city, I'll be one of those toursist going to MARTÍ GRAU for the first time this year.

The problem now is how to get 80,000 people out, only way to move 80,000 people is boats, lots and lots of boats. Coast Guard/Navy should organize a Dunkirt operation of the poor city of New Orleans.

Haven't heard from my wife's uncle and cousins in BR yet. Don't know the situation up their. The Uncle and family left Biloxi, and from what it looks like he will be moving to Missouri faster than he thought.

First of all the Admin Moderators need to set your threads up on the top subject board to where you don't have to look for this like Cindy S., Karl Rowe, etc. This is an American tragedy and all Freepers need to be able to come right to this. I found out about Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and the news like I feared is horrible.

If you want a sense of the devastation in MS, you absolutely must watch the WLBT skycopter footage. Was posted on the last thread but bears repeating...
