Look his comment about the military made you mad and I can understand that but his point is valid. I do not want to create another disaster just to feel good. It is obvious to any thinking person that you cannot place 25,000 people in a confined place for months and not end up in chaos. Yes the Dome seems ideal, so did the Superdome, at the time. I know that building very well and the plumbing and air handling systems were NEVR designed for what is essentially an NFL football game going non-stop 24 hours per day for at least 4 months. It will crater. You cannot put that strain on 40 year old air handling and plumbing systems with complete failure and when that happens...then what? They are also allowing residents to come and go as they please. This is the equivalent of a small town with the predictable percentage of bad versus good people and given given the NOLA crime rate a high percentage of these folks are going to come back with drugs weapons and all the other things openly for sale in that area. I feel for these poor people but it is the worst solution I can imagine for the problem.

No I believe the worst idea was to leave them to die. I hope, pray, and believe we will do all we can to reduce these numbers as quickly as possible. I sent my congressman a note today suggesting Ft Polk take these people. Even if they have tent cities at least it's high and dry with lots of paved roads.

As to the remark about the armed forces, damn right he made me mad. 80% of the male members of my extended family back to the Revolution have served, with only one career member in the bunch. We think it an honor to do our duty for a few years and come home. He thinks being a dentist is more important. I think my dentist grandfather, Lt Col Judson L Taylor, US Army Reserves (&Air Corp) and his dentist brother Dr. Mac Taylor USMC WWI, were pretty important in their own right.
