Hostage Situation in New Orleans
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a heads up, armed looters have taken over one of the medical centers in New Orleans where the injured people were being sent. They are holding the entire staff of the hospital hostage and firing at the national guard. An FBI SWAT team has just been flown in (from Baton Rouge I believe) and they are just now getting situated. I'm not sure of any online scanners that are up monitoring the state trs. That is where alot of traffic is going on at.
LSP Troop B is requesting immediate backup. Troopers, riot squad, and national guard. He said the crowd is triple the size it was earlier and they are about to be overrun.
The location is 610 and eleshafield(spelling?).
Should I make another thread that has events going on down there? Lots of stuff has gone on and half of it never makes it on the news or anything.
You made me laugh at this dire situation.
LOL
Under certain circumstances, the Federal Government could declare martial law and take control over from a state.
>>Looting him was no crime.
Guess you think it was OK for Iraqi mobs to loot hospitals, the National Museum, all kinds of equipment from offices because Saddam ruled them - right under the noses of US troops and AFTERthe regime was toppled.
Okey dokey.
But the point remains, in Baghdad, we didn't shoot looters. Heck, we even celebrated it as an expression of "freedom".
"Welcome to Mogadishu on the Mississippi"
New Orleans is in a bowl alright....TOILET BOWL.
Perhaps like with the Rodney King riots, folks will stop looting so they can get their welfare checks.
That one really made me gag.
I drove thru downtown Macon GA about 8 this morning and then back thru going home a little after 2(took my dear 94-year-old-great aunt out for lunch and run some errands). Inbound gas was running $2.48 and a few cents up(interestingly WalMart was already showing $2.86).... Outbound it was running $2.89 and $3.01 was the highest I saw.
It's about 4:45pm now and a guy just called into the local rock station complaining about the same store where it was the highest-says it's $4.29 now...
Besides, from what I've heard, the Governor of LA needs to ask the President for Federal intervention of the armed forces.
Anybody know if that is true?
Who ever was being quoted mentioned the President does have the authority to send in the armed forces under some Act, can't remember the name, once asked by the Governor of a state.
"Not all of these guns are ending up in the wrong hands."
Have to disagree with you there. Every one of those guns are in the hands of people who broke into stores and stole merchandise. They are already in the hands of felons.
A slight correction-- All looters spotted stealing should be shot on sight.
Ya hit the nail on the head there buddy....
I would hate to see the Feds do that without the state's Governor requesting it. But it's probably time she requested it.
I'd diagnose it more as 'not wanting to get caught' and 'not giving a rip' when it comes to right and wrong.
Right and wrong are concepts that are taught or not.
Looting Saddam Hussein's wine cellar is a far cry from looting a children's hospital for narcotics.
Baghdad was not New Orleans.
Or at least put a good fence around the Astrodome.
Any major, modern city with a large underclass would experience the same as NO. BTW, plenty of people in NO (pre-flood) either lived or visited in luxury and dined on gourmet meals.
From another thread about the looters: I'm just trying to understand people's actions and I'm saying that none of us know exactly how we would react.
T--hat one really made me gag.--
Yep.
If the poster thinks so little of their fellow board members, maybe they're in the wrong place.
Today's paper hardly even mentioned New Orleans, the story was like on page 10. Tomorrow it will be on the front page and I'll let you know on the blog.
Not the case, actually. In the video they were showing this morning, they were the majority, but not the sole representatives. There were other races involved.
