Chamale Cove in Slidell
08/30/05 3:40 | Christal

Posted on 08/31/2005 1:42:01 PM PDT by christalchick

My husband was able to get into Slidell in Chamale Subdivision. Trees were on some houses, but others were okay. We had about a foot of water in our house & about five feet in our garage (just to let you know what you should expect). Although, there was no mud in our house. The police officer stated count on all of the houses on Lakeview drive to be gone.

Glad to hear you are alright. I had read that Slidell was hit pretty badly.

Ex-S - Slidell ping. Perhaps these folks can give you info on the specific area in Slidell you are concerned about.

We're looking for info on DONYA STREET between Highway 190 and I-12. What are the conditions of homes there? Flooded? DONYA is NOT in a subdivision or near one.

Well, if you have the means and can get at it quick you might be able to minimize the water damage by using something like a circular saw set at ½” to cut the sheetrock about 4’ above the floor.

Then you can just rip out the lower part. Sometimes that’s possible and that way you don’t have to rip it all out. Then again, you may have roof damage or whatever and it may all have to all come out anyway. But it's important to get the wet carpet/padding/sheetrock/insulation out of there ASAP.

From my experience in Texas the insurance guys will have seen all sorts of damage and don’t necessarily have to see your property in its damaged condition. In other words, they can see you had damage and can see the pile of sheetrock and carpet and padding out on the front yard, so they won’t give you a hassle over removing it before they arrived. That has been my experience.

I mention it for a couple of reasons. First, it’ll be a lot cheaper to tear out stuff if you do it yourself and anyone can do it. It’s not brain surgery. Second, it gives you something productive to do with your time rather than just sit around. Third, once you get the carpets and sheetrock out and get things somewhat cleaned up you’ll start looking forward to what your nice new walls/carpet/kitchen cabinets/whatever are going to look like and it’ll give you something to look forward to rather than just moping around.

When you’re done you can volunteer to help the neighbors, etc. Head down, keep digging. Sounds like all of your people are present and accounted for (!!) so this will just be an inconvenience more than anything. Keep busy and the time will fly and things will be back to normal before you know it.

I'm glad y'all are okay. My wife and I went on Dr. Wagner's swamp tour three weeks ago. We're praying for you and the whole area.

I just checked google maps.

Donya St. is about a mile north of the Chamale Cove area.

The father from Lake Ponchatrain the better. :-)

Still praying.

Keep the faith, friend.

Christalchick can point out Chamale Cove; I don't see it on the map.

I'm glad you're relatively okay.

Any word on either Fountain Estates or Ozone Woods subdivisions?

Thanks.

Is your house raised? I don't understand only 1 foot of water in the house yet five in garage, unless the house is raised.

Thanks.

Shouting with JOY: THEY HAVE ALL BEEN FOUND ALIVE!!!! HOUSE WAS HALF BLOWN AWAY BUT THE FOLKS INCLUDING THE KIDS ARE ALIVE AND WELL. However, the other family members are still going UP there to get the kids and bring them out of danger to Orlando Florida where they'll attend school for the rest of the year.
