Over on this thread
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1474647/posts
they are reporting that the story of the soldier having been shot has been confirmed by numerous sources and IS NOT a hoax (after some banter that it may be a hoax - the freeper that made the hoax assertion on that thread has since recanted the claim)
Personally I'm listening to the scanner link right now and it sounds as real as any other I've listened to, though I am no expert. I can't imagine how someone would/could go to the trouble to fake the scanner talk.

Yeah, if you're going to hoax it, you're going to put really juicy stuff on it. Cops talking about stolen DVDs, racist comments, etc. Not happening.

And New Orleans IS dead. It will come back to life, but I fear the 3-4 months some people are talking about is wishful thinking. You may be right but I somehow doubt it. I have a feeling that this is just the beginning of things to come. We in America have turned our back on God why should we think that His back will not turn on us?

I was amazed at how people could act like such beast. I never thought people could behave in such a way!My wife and I lived in an apartment (1st flr of 3 story) next to the corner of Roscoe and Reseda, in Northridge. That morning, I only saw one guy go in and walk away with 2 cases of beer from the 7-Eleven. Hundreds of people were civil, allowing the employees to go in and get what the customer wanted (no one was allowed to go in the store). It was actually nice that the store was conducting any business considering no power.

Nothing I've heard on the scanner. I haven't been poking around Google or anything though...
I'm off to bed for the night. Take care everyone!
Prayers for all the wounded, and heartbroken...

"We in America have turned our back on God why should we think that His back will not turn on us?"
America may have turned its back to God (although polls show the younger people are turning that around) - but I sincerely doubt that God has turned his back on us. And who knows - terrible disasters have occured in the past which I believe were God's judgements - so I'd be a fool to say that it won't happen again - or that this might not be one of them.
But - regardless of wheather it is "God's Judgement" or the normal "everyday" natural disaster - God won't turn his back on us.

I am sorry the first post I was referring to the Rodney King riots about people acting so terrible.
The point I was speaking of the difference in the handling of the Northridge quake vs. the riots.
I was in my business at Chatsworth and Balboa in the same shopping center as the Ralphs that was red tagged!
The area you were in was pretty hard hit. That quake made Slymar seems like child's play. And the second one that hit that was side to side was just as strong as the first.
Are you still in Earthquake country? I headed up north in 2000! Glad I did too!
Ms. Casey's Daughter!
The first person I had the misfortune of seeing was a kid that was a druggie and he offered to steal me a pair of shoes! I ran out without shoes and a nail had gone in my foot. I told him "NO"!

Why do you feel that God will not turn His back on us? Why should our fate be better than those of our Christian sisters and brothers around the world, as we support and sponsor the governments that torture and persecute them, and the American churches sit in silence.
What makes us so special? We sponsor abortion around the world and have even promoted it. The ten commandants are being treated as if they are a crime. Mention the name of Jesus in a public work area and it is being treated as if it is pornography. We have done far many more things that the Lord would not be just if He did not judge us.
I fear for my country that which is to come!

Oh good Lord, did you hear him talk about the guy that was about the drink the stagnant, sewage laden water? And how about those guys in the Ryder truck. "F*** the police!" It sounds like friggin Mad Max out there.
To: Mo1
I missed the beginning... caught the water thing again, but missed the shooting part.... what did he say?

Are you still in Earthquake country? I headed up north in 2000! Glad I did too!The company I worked for, Packard Bell / NEC, had already made the decision to move to Salt Lake City, before the Northridge Quake, and the quake sped up the move.
My wife and I are still here now, and happy to be here.
During the L.A. riots, I was a kid living up Chevy Chase in Glendale. Those were scary times.

"We have done far many more things that the Lord would not be just if He did not judge us."
I never said God won't judge us - just that he won't turn his back on us (at least not until the Final Judgement).
Several years ago a Chinese Christian who was involved in smuggling bibles to China was speaking and said that the Christians in China were praying that American Christians would be persecuted the way that they were - it was a real faith builder! I went up to her afterwards and said "Thanks for all your prayers - but can you cut it out! :-)

Jeff was telling how some police guy gave him and his producer a police flashing light in case they needed it
He said he didn't want to use it .. but it was so bad there and so dark that they couldn't see where they were going
He said they were going down one street with the flashing light when they came upon a Ryder Truck with a couple guys in the back ..
One guy had a sawed off shoot gun .. pointed at him and yell F the police
Jeff said .. they heard a gun shot afterwards .. he isn't sure where it came from .. if it was these guys or from behind their car
Jeff said that he's been to 3rd countries that were war zones and that is what this part of NO reminded him of
He said it is an absolute mess down there
