What a surprise to see this post! Manse Jolley is my G-G-G-G-G Uncle. I found out about him while researching my family's genealogy, bought and read the book. He was a fascinating character, wasn't he? Although he would probably be considered a serial killer nowadays, his story certainly puts the whole reconstruction era into perspective, doesn't it? Maybe I shouldn't be, but I am proud to have him in my family....:)
