Joseph P. Kennedy II, who built upon his family fortune with a lucrative career of his own since leaving politics, allegedly told a Hyannis mother he left paralyzed for life in a car crash 32 years ago that he is ``broke'' and won't be her financial crutch any longer.
``I'm broke. I work for a non-profit. I'm not a bottomless pit,'' the chairman of Citizens Energy Corp. and former congressman allegedly told Pamela Burkley, whom he knew in their star-crossed youth on Cape Cod as Pam Kelley his late brother David's girlfriend.
Kennedy denies through his lawyer that he made the remarks. Though she acknowledges Kennedy, 52, has thrown some $50,000 her way over the years, Burkley, 50, told the Herald, ``I feel like he thinks I'm a piece of trash sitting in a wheelchair.''
The divorced mother of a 16-year-old girl said she earns $57,000 a year as executive director of the Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled and suffers from recurring bladder cancer. ``I'm realizing my body is starting to give out on me,'' she said.
``I just want to live my life and plant my plants, play with my dogs and watch my daughter grow up. As I age, I'm getting nervous and less independent. And I'm tired.''
Steve Kidder, a friend and attorney for Kennedy, said Burkley's portrayal of slain U.S. Sen. Robert Kennedy's son as cold and uncaring is wrong.

I'll bet his trust fund is loaded and protected
The Kennedy's are dangerous to the citizens of this country.
Let's see, that works out to the grand sum of $1562.50 per year. That's about equal to the Kennedys' bar bill for one night...
He says he works for a non-profit and does not get paid much, but later the article mentions his finances, including salary - "Entities related to his Citizens Energy Corp. paid him more than $400,000 in 2003".
I thought I read that the "non-profit" job ultimately pays him $650,000 a year because he makes royalties off the fuel that he buys for the "non-profit" to distribute.
Tragically, this once again proves the adage that you NEVER RIDE WITH A KENNEDY.
Either way, only a Kennedy could say "I'm broke" making $650,000 on top of all other investments and trust.
It's all one big family trust and they aren't as rich as they use to be. This latest batch is sucking it dry. Partially due to lawsuits........LOL.
Oh yeah, Joe and Michael (the now deceased molester of the family's babysitter) made tons from that "non-profit". Even the Boston Globe, wrote an article about 8 years ago about the $$$ being made in that "Oil for the Poor" scam by Michael. High 6-figures.
I haven't been able to find a Form 990 for Citizens Energy. Does anyone know if their chairman's compensation would be listed on it like it is in a corporation's SEC filings?
Kennedy: "I'm broke. I work for a non-profit. I'm not a bottomless pit"
If he was the cause of her disability he is an ungrateful clod for complaining over $50,000.She could have sued him for everything he has.The Kennedy family really is the perfect example of the mindless limousine liberal. They pretend to be caring and compassionate but if you look a little bit deeper you can see the dead bodies of their victims pinned underneath the wheel of their car.
From what I've read up here, the Boston Herald reported he was making more that $600,000 a year in that job. Hard to be broke on that kind of salary.
I'm tired of the Kennedys. I sure wish they'd stop having kids.
This generation of Kennedy's is way worse then the last
But then ... Teddy was their role model .. so it's no wonder why they have so many problem

IIRC, Pam's old man was the trustee of the settlement (Pam was underage) and he blew a good portion of the money building a house in Hyannisport looking down on the Kennedy compound. If Pam still owns that house, it has to be worth well over a million bucks now.
If I still owned the house I'd have sold it by now. Duh!
Did you ever get an answer to your question about SEC filing for Citizens? Do you know I am not eligible for his low cost fuel or discount prescription drugs? Go figure. He lives right up the street from me in my sister's old house on a private road on the water worth about a mill which he put in his friends name and he tells me he's broke. He said that ver batum. Someone ought to tell him to read some of this stuff.
