Pentagon Finds More Who Recall Atta Intel
The Washington Post ^ | September 1, 2005 | Robert Burns

WASHINGTON -- Pentagon officials said Thursday they have found three more people who recall an intelligence chart that identified Sept. 11 mastermind Mohamed Atta as a terrorist one year before the attacks on New York and Washington. But they have been unable to find the chart or other evidence that it existed.

Last month, two military officers, Army Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer and Navy Capt. Scott Philpott, went public with claims that a secret unit code-named Able Danger used data mining _ searching large amounts of data for patterns _ to identify Atta in 2000. Shaffer has said three other Sept. 11 hijackers also were identified.

In recent days Pentagon officials have said they could not yet verify or disprove the assertions by Shaffer and Philpott. On Thursday, four intelligence officials provided the first extensive briefing for reporters on the outcome of their interviews with people associated with Able Danger and their review of documents.

They said they interviewed at least 80 people over a three-week period and found three, besides Philpott and Shaffer, who said they remember seeing a chart that either mentioned Atta by name as an al-Qaida operative or showed his photograph. Four of the five recalled a chart with a pre-9/11 photo of Atta; the other person recalled only a reference to his name

Yes, thanks, I'd meant to comment on that -- I have read this guy a few times over the past couple of weeks, as he's been linked in several discussions of AD. He seems to be a current or former Military Intelligence guy, as far as I can tell (but I have no professional background in this area - I'm just an interested citizen!). Anyway, he does claim to have some inside 'connections'.... wouldn't we love to know who is heading for the exits, i.e., are they Clinton political appointees and/or if career people were they advanced by the Clintonistas in the way that Wesley Clark was popped up in rank over dozens of other general officers because Clinton needed a liberal "perfumed prince".....

I think you are right. He is the only high ranking official so far that has confirmed the story.

I would agree that he is mighty P.O.ed. No one wants to find out after the fact that stuff went on potentially under the radar.

Good leaders don't like to have secrets kept from them.

Perhaps we shall see some interesting stuff come out of that site as DIA/AD issues continue to fester. If the Senate JC does not whitewash the investigation, perhaps we have not seen the end to it. Sure looks like if a lot is made public, dispite the wrong tag applied to her, Condi may end up on the short stick. Whatever may surface publically on Reno,Gorelick,Clark,Berger,Tenet, etc., will be super minimized or outright avoided if at all possible and the L/MSM will synthesize a whole array of charges against the current SoS, and GWB's role which will obviously be distored to no end. So if this all goes quitely away expect it to have been agreed upon that no one gets hurt or time for the Demos to go into super high gear on smear and deceit tactics with their ever willing L/MSM operatives. I have no other way to look at it. Please do not feel obligated to respond unles you feel you want to add/detract from what I just wrote.

Schaffer already has stated that as far as he knows, Weldon personally gave a copy of the CHART to Hadley of NSC two weeks AFTER 9-11. Obviously this is true, or Weldon wouldn't be going down this road.

So they really don't need a Pentagon copy.

HOWEVER, If Hadley's chart is ALSO missing...somebody REALLY has to explain who, what, where, when, why.

Aka PROMIS (Prosecutor Management Information System). Want to curl your toes? Google

The pentagon still can't find the chart. It's probably in that big field house where they put the Ark in Indiana Jones. Have they looked there?

Things don't work that way anymore. The smear machine is so impotent that all it can do is distract with "human interest" stories: Natalie, Terri, Disaster of the Day, Celebrity trials etc. Our beloved Treason Media must avoid real news at any cost.

Somehow, with all that's going on in the Gulf, I have to wnoder if the nation will have the moral will to see Congress hold Able Danger hearings.

This should not be a short thing but continue for MONTHS. NO will not be a major story after about a month to the Treason Media. Congressional action dealing with the disaster will only take a short time.

The best timetable will be to slowly percolate this until after the Christman recess then hammer it big time. With a report due end of Sept 2006 in time for the Nov elections.

In addition, I think there should be hearings in the Intelligence Committee and Armed Services. This weekend I will start writing letters to the members of those committees asking for them. Actual paper letters.
