I would just like to say something. Get it off my chest for all those reading and lurking on these threads.
Your cutesy comments, jokes about people deserving it, and the other assorted bull crap are pissing me the hell off. We are suffering badly here in the Gulf. There are millions of people just days away from death if supplies don't get to them. There are dozens of small towns with nary a single person coming to rescue them out at this point.
Yes, the looters in NO are evil and they need to be thrown away forever if not shot. That and $8.00 will buy me diapers for my child. I am sick of the racism, the classism, the anti south attitudes I have been seeing. I am a transplanted Southerner now, but there are amazing people here and serving in our military.
The VAST majority of black people down here are good hard working people. When I say hard working, I mean, you stupid little pissants could not do half the back breaking work these folks accomplish in a day, if you had a week.
I love this country, I love this state, and I wish some people who claim to be Christian, would start acting that way. Children are dying, our elderly are succumbing in the heat. Your stupid pet issues, don't mean crap to me, or anybody else here. Do you get that? Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way. (Will not rant again, this has been building up since my power got back on, and I have seen isolated cases of stupidity and ignorance here)
What's your location?
Thanks for your comments.
Disasters do bring out both the best and worst in human nature, unfortunately.
Isolated? It's been rampant.
I know what you're talking about. There have been some way off remarks made. I bet they wouldn't be talkin trash if they had actually rode out a storm or lost everything they own.
I appreciate your comments and have been thinking much the same.
Let me just say...ditto.
I tried a time or two, to ask us to consider that the lurid images are NOT representative of the vast majority, of all races that are in the shit together. And working the best they can to help each other. I garontee, when the whole story is written, we are going to see stories of heroic action and sacrifice.
Glad to hear you have made it so far. Where are you, if you care to tell.
I agree.
I know that the troublemakers are only a small fraction of the sea of humanity that is hurting down in your neck of the woods. I hear you. I agree with everything you said. It's like I heard Hayley Barbour say today: things like this bring out the best in most people and the worst in some. With the exception of an elderly uncle and his family who lives in Laurel, MS, I have no relatives and know nobody in the affected region, so I have no personal ties. It doesn't do me or anybody else any good for me to wallow in the misery and the more sensationalistic aspect of the media coverage. It's really too much for me to take in.
Besides praying for everyone down there, I have acted in the most practical way I know how. I just made a not-too-shabby donation online to the Salvation Army, via the link provided by NautiNurse. I hope it does a displaced family who lost everything some good.
Keep your chin up!
Thank you.
I totally agree with your post. Too many posters have been taking advantage of this tragedy to slam the victims and also politicians.
God bless and comfort the victims of this tragedy, ESPECIALLY those of the least means. They are the needy. How we treat them, 'the least of His brothers', is what matters..
Thank you for your comment. I wish all Freepers thought like you. What we (some Freepers are) should be clamoring for is some real leadership to get this situation under control. It helps no one to whine and complain about the inevitable mobs that will arise when then the leaders showed no prepardness, no effective response, and people are struggling for their lives. It's a mute point. Mob rule is a given in that type of situation. It's up to the leaders to prevent it and to fix it. They did and continue to do nothing. Bush should fire everyone at FEMA and put the military in charge. They're obviously the only goverment organization that can do anything effectively these days. Leadership, discipline, and courage are what's needed. Sorry for my rant, but like you I had some things to get off of my chest.
One of the best comments on these threads.
Thank you. Thank you!
I'd like to join the Amen corner, dog.
Times like these reveal character. I now know a lot of characters on FR who I won't have anything to do with from this point on.
Well, somebody had to say it. Well done. It seems many good people on this board sometimes get carried away with their frustrations over other issues and come across as pompous or even racist. I am certain most are not. We need to remember we are blessed to have many wonderful black conservatives on Freerepublic and that it is a Southern kind of place. Let us all choose our words a little more carefully so as to not appear to be what we all abhor.
Thank you for your post, and DITTO!
I was flamed badly on another thread the other day for defending the very folks to whom you refer...
(BYW, I'm a Yankee - lived in PA all my life)
Honestly, My FRiend, when I see moms with babies sweltering with no water, I have to cry.
No one deserves this, no one.
And why, if Sheppard Smith and NBC news can get on the streets, why didn't they bring some water with them?? /rant off/
That was a much needed rant. I hope it made you feel better. It needed to be said. God Bless you.
I hope you know that so many of us are heartbroken watching this.
