I am so happy and surprised to see The New York Times reporting on people using guns for self defense.

Yea, but I bet their point was how insensitive the gun owners were for not letting their fellow citizens 'borrow' what they needed.

Waste of ammo firing over their heads.
Aim lower next time.

Yep! Lead is the only resource that needed to be wasted on them!

It was a short two days ago when the city was asking everyone to turn in their weapons. Imagine, just imagine the result if people had complied.

Yes, but there's the mess to clean up afterward.

Waste of ammo firing over their heads. Indeed. Just sends them on to find an unarmed victim.

The looters "are starting to get closer to heavily populated areas," Mayor C. Ray Nagin told The Associated Press, "hotels, hospitals, and we're going to stop it right now.".........
They weren't in heavily populated areas before? Well then that's ok. (idiot mayor)

I would have regarded your statement as hyperbole a year ago but now having seen Newsweek publish the Koran-in-the-toilet story, and sixteen people dead as the result, and probably little or no remorse on the part of the 'journalists', I believe it.

shouldn't call it a mess, just call it "deterence". plus it will attract the nastiest, hungriest, meanest dogs on the block as additional negative reeinforcement.

A gun is a tool, just like a crescent wrench or a hammer. It's a tool whereby civilized people defend themselves against uncivilized people--also known as "animals."
