National Hurricane Director had to call Nagin at home Saturday night to plead: "Get people out..."

MAYOR CRITICIZED EVEN BEFORE LEVY BREAK. National Hurricane Center Director had to call Nagin at home Saturday night to plead: "Get people out of New Orleans." "The criticisms of Nagin came from above as well. Numerous officials urged him to evacuate the city, but he worried about the legality of ordering people out when New Orleans has few safe hurricane shelters. Also, National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield in Miami called Nagin at home Saturday night and told him: Get people out of New Orleans.

''I could never sleep if I felt like I didn't do everything that I could to impress upon people the gravity of the situation,'' Mayfield said. ``New Orleans is never going to be the same.''

When a grim Nagin issued the mandatory evacuation order Sunday, he said: ``We are facing a storm that most of us have feared . . . God bless us.''

"There should be a congressional investigation of where the FEMA and Homeland Security funds given to New Orleans went. Just telling people to hike to the Superdome, with no water, food or cots inside, was NOT an emergency preparedness plan. Someone got the money and we need to find out who."

Get ready for ever more irrational screming as the Dems try to drown out the truth.

Excellent pic. Tells it all, eh? It's pretty bad when the National Hurricane Director has to BEG a mayor to DO SOMETHING about the people he is representing, sheesh! Leave it to fellow FReepers to find the TRUTH out there. I'm so proud of the folks on this website.

Yup. Even at that, they were given to jabbering about their post-exam celebration plans. I did not have as much "fun" as they did in college, but I left on time with a degree in hand.

Mayor Nagin needs to be brought up on charges of gross neglect of duty.

On the other hand let's just drop him in the middle of the people still stuck in his city and see how long he lasts. But first drop printouts of the photos of all of those flooded school buses that he refused to deploy.

the MSM won't let this happen but he seems the GOAT of this!

The black New Orleans residents that I saw on the TV were blaming Nagin. I have to say, though, that Governor Blanco was much worse, totally incompetent.

Here's an interesting article from Sept. 15th, 2004 when Hurrican Ivan approached the Gulf Coast:

New Orleans urges people to move to higher floors, or take shelter at the Superdome

http://web.abqtrib.com/archives/news04/091504_news_ivan1.shtml

"I think it's safe to say we will have flooding in this city," said Mayor Ray Nagin. However, he contradicted a statement from his emergency preparedness director that the city needed at least 10,000 body bags to handle possible drowning victims.

Vewy Vewy interesting...

Most amazing of all is that I was there for Hurricane Camille and really, it wasn't that bad.

This gave the people a false sense that this storm, which was only a Cat 1 when it hit Florida, wasn't going to be that bad either.

In fact, the hurricane wasn't the most dangerous part. It was the breeched levee and the failure of the brand new canal.

The mother nature part combined with the utter incompetence of the Mayor and Governor left the city vulnerable.

The city of NO has historic value. Preservation Hall, the fact that all the coffee was shipped into that port. The history is important to preserve.

The citizenry........UGH.

Nope, I downloaded some now (Saturday 10:30 CST) Thanks, smelly_fed

Has all sorts of interesting things:

A. Staging Areas

The definition of a staging area is a central location, easily accessible to those ambulatory people who are in need of transportation to a shelter.

1. Residents who have no means of transportation will be directed to the staging areas.

2. Transportation vehicles will be pre-positioned to transport residents to shelters.

3. Once the evacuation routes are closed, the staging areas will become Last Resort Refuges.

4. After the storm has passed and the evacuation order is rescinded, transportation will be provided to return people dropped off at shelters to the staging area.

As the days go by I can assure you that the threats to hold hearings in Congress to assess blame.....will go silent.

Lots of lefties were willing to blame Bush, but when the race hustlers piled on, it was just too much.

How silly of us.

Waste of time and money.

NJ Governor McGreevy put his gay lover as liason to Homeland Security.

Not even an US citizen and therefore, unable to get security clearance.

Do the dems here care? Not at all. They'll probably elect Corslime.

Most sheeple have their head in the sand.

We need to protect our own family and property and not count on the government, local or national for our safety.

Jabbar Gibson, the next Mayor of New Orleans. A man with proven leadership abilities and an ability to cut through red tape (and red ignition wires).

The mayor and/or governor...Should have just ordered the evacuation....No one would have known if they had the legal authority. "Authority" comes from taking action....They could have worried about the technicalities later.

Elected leaders are not always true leaders.

IMO These two were just puppets.....Wooded headed, controlled by strings.

I would like to be able to read the entire article. Please let me know if you are able to access it. Thanks......Spunky

Page 13 5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.

Can you be a little more specific about where this is found? I went to the pdf, but the document is large, and there are many page "13's". I want more detail on this cause it is a great find, a keeper for more info showing that the mayor was asleep on his feet.
