Does that mean we should stop buying everything on this list in order to reduce our dependency on oil?

No, but it underscores the fact that oil is a vital raw material. Of course, given sufficient energy, everything that we now make from oil could probably be made from coal, of which there are unfathomable reserves. And a good source of energy is nuclear fission. So there is no reason--other than an assemblage of sh!t-for-brains environmentalists--that human society should ever want for energy or raw materials ever.

*The final total product of a refined barrel of crude oil may exceed 1 barrel, since some of the lighter liquids are in a near gaseous state and accordingly take up more volume. This list is only a sampling of the products made from crude oil. It is not intended to be all-inclusive. Rather it is meant to show in just how many areas products made from crude oil are found and used.

Yup!

A needed reminder for some of us.

We need to take care of business and that means becoming more self-sufficient in our energy needs. Tree-huggers get a voice, but should not be a veto! Public need is paramount.

Would like to see all these displaced people be given jobs in a New American Public Works Brigades -- help rebuild infrastructure etc. Not a charity or welfare org, but a true program that cares for its workers as they help in this enormous rebuilding effort.

These Public Works Brigades should be given support from area Churches, and Big Businesses. Not just a government project -- but an American Project supported by us all.

And, while we are engrossed here at home in this effort, let us not forget our brave soldiers out on freedom's frontier. God Bless them and all of us!

Goodness no, this is what makes our lives so good. I can not imagine life without an oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, car, or any other conveniences of modern living, especially zip-lock baggies.

We just need to inform the public about what oil actually is and what is produced from it besides gasoline.

What percentage is used for gasoline? That would be an interesting statistic.

My husband and I were just discussing this today. I was wondering what items are made using oil products and if and when those products would start going up in price. Interesting to note: I bought oil for the car today at NAPA and the price has NOT gone up since I was in there last week. Hmmm. That's for the list.

THANKS for the list. Spell check is not grammar check. It won't catch it if it's spelled right.

Grammar check would be nice, I read so many articles by the MSN that have not been proofread. AS an ex English teacher, it is sad, but tells me they don't care enough to publish correct English, and not worth reading.
