State authorities suspected a political motive behind the request. "Quite frankly, if they'd been able to pull off taking it away from the locals, they then could have blamed everything on the locals," said the source, who is an adviser and does not have the authority to speak publicly.

It's finally happened. The 'Hate Bush' mentality has come home to roost and is now affecting policy decisions.

No matter how many times I read that, I can't make it make any sense. The simple truth is, if the feds had been able to take control, then the feds would have to take the blame for screw-ups.

The statement IS revealing, though. I believe it is a clear case of the common dem malady of "accusing your enemy of thinking like you."

It's clear that the dem state gov't. was looking at this from a political, rather than humanitarian, perspective. I believe they saw a chance to keep control, and blame the feds for screw-ups - exactly what they're trying to pin on the Bush admin.

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner! No more callers, please!

I thought the exact same thing when I read the WaPo article. The Hate Bush movement has come to its fruition: the needless death of American citizens because partisan politics takes priority over doing "The Right Thing."
