TEHRAN, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Iran on Sunday offered to send humanitarian aid to victims of hurricane Katrina, becoming the latest U.S. foe to extend assistance to the country often dubbed the "Great Satan" in the Islamic republic.
"The victims have complained about the lack of timely assistance and we are prepared to send our contributions to the people through the Red Crescent," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi.
Speaking at a weekly news conference, Asefi noted that Iran, which Washington has dubbed an "axis of evil" member and accuses of developing nuclear weapons and sponsoring terrorism, had been among the first countries to send condolences after Katrina hit.
"If Iran's help is needed and requested we'd respond to the call, however we should make sure first that there is such a request," he said.
Washington has given humanitarian aid to Iran in the past when natural disasters, such as earthquakes, have struck the Islamic republic.
Iranian media have devoted extensive coverage to the aftermath of Katrina with many newspapers revelling in criticism of U.S. President George W. Bush's handling of the relief effort.
Fellow "axis of evil" member North Korea, as well as staunch U.S. critics Cuba and Venezuela, have also offered to send help to the victims of Katrina.

Right, Iran offered a couple days ago. They are on the list of 60 countries and hundreds of corporations that have offered assistance.

Iran has some uranium which was recently enriched to spare for us. Of course it will be in the form of a bomb smuggled in by terrorists. It will come in via NYC as New Orleans is already flattened.

Awww, that's so nice of Iran. But how will they find the time to help us between the busy work of terrorizing their own people and planning on ways to nuke us?
To: LauraleeBraswell
They have agreed to suspend all public hangings by crane to help us out.

Tehran, Iran, Sep. 04 Irans Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the jihad against Israel must continue and be strengthened, Irans semi-official daily Jomhouri Islami reported on Sunday.
The only way to fight the Zionist enemy is to continue and increase resistance and jihad, Ayatollah Khamenei said at a meeting on Saturday with secretary general of the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, Ramadan Abdullah, the hard-line daily Jomhouri Islami wrote.
Irans official policy is to call for the annihilation of the Jewish state. The countrys clerical rulers have been strongly opposed to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas attempts to reach a comprehensive peace settlement with Israel. In August, Israel removed Jewish settlements from the Gaza Strip after decades of occupation.
Khamenei said that the Israeli withdrawal was the valuable victory of jihadist groups, whom he urged to continue their struggle.
The Zionist enemys retreat from Gaza is insignificant if you compare it to the demands and rights of the Palestinian nation. But it was a great victory over the enemy and supporters of the Zionist regime. It showed the desperation of the occupiers of Quds (Jerusalem), Khamenei said.
Khamenei added that the failure of the United States in Lebanon and Iraq, and in its political confrontation with Iran were all signs of the enemys front losing strength.

If Iran's help is needed and requested we'd respond to the callI say let's take them up on it. They accepted our assistance during their earthquake emergency. Let's not cut off our noses to spite our faces.

They declare jihad in one post and now office humanitarian aid in another. Very strange.

Iran is just looking to indebt the US to them. Perhaps they reason that by sending aid they will be able to push on with their nuclear program without opposition fron "Uncle Sam."
