No Good Deed Goes Unpunished as Today Show Now FretsToo Many Troops in New Orleans

by Mark Finkelstein on September 5, 2005 - 07:22.

It had to happen. When the chorus of MSM complaints of federal inaction were drowned in a sea of thousands of soldiers moving into New Orleans, the MSM nimbly adjusted. Now the problem is . . . too many soldiers.

NBC's Carl Quintanilla framed it this way on this morning's Today show, with the rubric "Chaos in New Orleans" displayed on screen:

"Now that the military is moving in huge convoys of soldiers, concerns that too strong a military presence in too small a space could cause accidents, crashes."

Today then aired footage of a rescue helicopter that had rolled over in the mud, as Quintanilla fretted "it's just what residents of New Orleans do not need as they decide whether to leave a ravaged city or tough it out."

When it comes to the MSM's treatment of the Bush administration's response to Katrina, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Finkelstein has degrees from Cornell University and Harvard Law School. He lives in Ithaca, NY where he hosts "Right Angle," a local political talk show. Finkelstein specializes in exposing liberal bias at NBC's Today Show.

I liked Carl Quesadilla when he was on CNBC but moving to the big network seems to have dumbed him down.

Quintanilla seems like a pleasant-enough guy, but this is not the first time I've seen him engage in blatant anti-W/GOP/conservative bias.

Not enough military.
Too much military.
Bush didn't respond well.

Dramamine is right. The MSM's collective head is spinning like Linda Blair's in The Exorcist.

"it's just what residents of New Orleans do not need as they decide whether to leave a ravaged city or tough it out."

Anyone who stays should be required to sign something like the following: "I have been advised to leave New Orleans as it will be months before basic safety and services can be assured. I understand I will recieve no aid, food, water, or rescue if I stay, this is my one opportunity for evacuation."

You'll need to add a sequel to today's post, gov. President Bush is going to withdraw Roberts' judgeship nomination and renominate him for the Chief Justice position!

Do you hear those screams coming from Leahy's and Schumer's office from where you are? LOL

Mozart Lover is a friend who posts on the "America, the Right Way" thread on the General Interest forum. Her son enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard, and has been called up to be deployed to either Kuwait or Iraq. He is currently at Camp Shelby in Mississippi helping with hurricane relief, and is an EMT.

All of us on that thread are very proud of him and I will keep this as my tag line until he returns home.

Thanks for the explanation; I'd like to add my thoughts and best wishes.

[And here I thought it was some arcane historical reference!]
