Does anyone know how much federal money was given to N.O. over the last 3-4 years to prepare for catastrophic events. Most cities have received something. It will be interesting to see where the money went.

Is this sick mumor? Or even worse, the truth?

Since it is public works one would think it would be available.

AS I understand it (which is a bit hard from the story) they never got them, they were still in production at the time and were to be distributed in August, 05. With the inept state & local LA and NO government, we all know how that gig most likely went.

Yeah me too, and I have noted a lot of drowned vehicles parked on the streets these low income neighborhoods.

On Saturday morning he was on TV and radio telling people to leave town.

Thanks, Ursus.
Ironman, why are you sticking up for this guy? Do you work with him? List some things that Nagin did to plan/orchestrate the evacuation.
The libs are trying to hang the administration out to dry for this when the local/state officials did nothing. We're just making sure the record has a chance to be set straight before the MSM distorts it, as usual.
And here is the link, again, where Nagin/Blanco didn't order the evacuation till Sunday, NOT Saturday.

I was there and the mayor was on TV on Saturday calling for an Evacuation.
His evacuation request on Saturday may have something to do with all Interstate lanes going outbound on Saturday afternoon.
From the Article you posted:
She said Interstate 10, which was converted Saturday so that all lanes headed one-way out of town, was total gridlock.
Why would they convert all lanes to Contraflow if an evacuation was not called?

That is the real crime here. A city sitting below sea level without a viable evacuation plan. It seems that Plan A consisted of sending thousands of people to an unstocked superdome inside city. Forget about Plan B - there wasn't one.

What kind of evacuation is it when 1/3 of the police force bails?
You say the poor had an option, evacuate or stay behind in potentially one of the worst flood prone areas of the city. That's not the correct option. The only option was to evacuate, and to have the mayor and Governor have a real plan for prtotecting these areas using their own police. When Nagin and his police shief allowed for the NOPD to dissolve they instantly failed their responsibilities.

There was a plan. It was not implemented.

Hi - security was beefed up the week or two following the London bombings. Back to normal levels now.

The mayor evacuated his own family via helicopter on Friday. What is your source?
To: finnman69
On Friday the National Weather Service was not even predicting the Cat. 1 Hurricane to hit New Orleans.
Do you have some information that the mayor and governor had better information than the NWS?
