A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos) - 9.6.05

President Bush had a very busy day today, meeting with Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings and First Lady Laura Bush, to discuss the educational needs of children displaced by Hurricane Katrina and how states might be able to absorb the cost of the large numbers of new students. He also met with the Cabinet to discuss the recovery efforts following the hurricane, and reuniting family members with each other, healthcare provision and finances.

At noon, the President met with representatives from national voluntary organizations to discuss how best to help the Americans who are evacuees from the hurricane. He pledged a full investigation into the response to the hurricane.

The President and First Lady also paid their respects to the late Chief Justice of the United States, William Rehnquist, spending a few moments bowing their heads at his casket.

Continue to pray for the President and the people in the ravaged Gulf Coast region, and enjoy this island of refuge from the blind attacks against our GOOD President on the Daily Dose!

Quote of the Day: If you want to help, support the Red Cross or the Salvation Army or your church or the United Way. Houston, for example, is going to kick off a United Way campaign, and that money is going to help with the costs of the displaced persons inside of Houston. So please give cash money to organizations that are directly involved in helping save lives -- save the life who had been affected by Hurricane Katrina.

We have spent time talking about how we can make sure we continue progress, make sure people get -- not only continue to get the affection and love of people in the private sector, but also to make sure that the government gets people their Social Security checks, or their veteran's benefits checks, the checks that -- unemployment checks. And we'll do that, we'll do that.

Out of the darkness will come some light, and the light I saw yesterday at the program in Baton Rouge with T.D. Jakes was so apparent to me. And it's based upon the fact we've got citizens who are willing to take time to love somebody like they would like to be loved themselves, welcome a stranger in their midst. And for those of you who have done that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You're a part of the strength of this country. You're what makes America a great place.

In the meantime, we'll continue to work together to do our duty and to help our citizens who hurt, and help this great part of the country rebuild.

God bless.

With representatives from Volunteer Organizations, meeting to discuss hurricane relief......

The Salvation Army is the most efficient and reliable of all charities.

The money goes to the needy. It's a great organization!

(And you're FIRST!)

The Salvation Army is the most efficient and reliable of all charities.

I also donated to them. I don't want to bring the thread down, but I posted on the Katrina thread about the experience of my sister's friend who evacuated to Houston with her mother and some other relatives. She went to the Red Cross and was told they didn't have any money!! In Houston! A policemant gave her $100 as she was standing on the street corner crying.

Long story short, another sister had to contact the main RC office in DC to find out the magic words she had to say to the Houston offices in order to get help.

I'm disgusted.

To end on a more positive note (kinda), what trials our President has had to go through! And yet, I can't think of too many leaders who would have dealt with them so well.

And THAT my friend is EXACTLY why we didn't and never will give to the Red Cross. Too many horror stories and our money is not going to be given to them so they can refuse to help somone. No way. No how!

You are so right about the Salvation Army. I usually mail
them a check 3 or 4 times a year but after this catastrophe I got on their website and donated to them. They can feed, clothe and house a family of 4 for 2 days on $100.
