This is something that the humane society said must be thought of before the next major disaster because people refusing to go because of pets are causing problems.

FNC said today that the SPCA and the Humane Society are already going in to rescue the pets and many pet rescues near shelters are taking them in and even temporarily animal shelters being set up.

I can understand how people feel because if you leave the pet even if the authorities say they will rescue and hand over to to a shelter you have no way unless you see the animal actually handed to the people from the shelter that this will happen

One man refused to leave without his three rotweilers. Well, there is only so much room in a small rescue boat and believe me, the conditions in the shelters was difficult enough without dogs in there too.

I don't know what the solution is, but the rescuers did the right thing.

We now have men complaining that the helicopter rescuers took the women and children off the roof first and a different helicopter came back for them and they are separated from their family.

Evidently women and children first is an alien concept to some people.
