CERRITOS, Calif. (AP) A ``well dressed'' man entered a Chevrolet dealership and stabbed a salesman to death after his request to test drive a Corvette was denied, sheriff's officials said.

Melchor Macaso, 35, was booked late Tuesday at the Inmate Reception Center in downtown Los Angeles on a felony murder count, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Web site. He was being held on $1 million bail.

The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. in a rear sales office at S&J Chevrolet, said Sgt. Vanette Christensen, a sheriff's department spokeswoman. The salesman refused to let the customer test drive the car because the man did not have proper identification, she said.

``He began acting violently and produced a large butcher knife'' with which he stabbed the salesman several times in the upper body, Christensen said.

The suspect then walked outside and paced back and forth for a brief time, she said.

``There were several brave other employees who tackled him and held him until deputies arrived,'' Christensen said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital but died, said Lt. Robert Guilbault of the sheriff's station in Cerritos, a city of 51,000 people 26 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

Christensen said sheriff's officials were not yet releasing the identity of the victim, who she described as a man in his 30s.

They also didn't have a motive for the crime, she said.

Tuesday's killing was the second at a Southern California car dealership in the past month.

On Aug. 8, a man who was unhappy with his girlfriend's car purchase allegedly shot and killed two people at a dealership in Colton, Calif. about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Later that day, the suspect allegedly shot and killed a 16-year-old boy before police shot and arrested him.

Yeah, but do you carry a butcher knife? It works like this. Well-dressed man and salesman go for test drive. Away from dealership, "customer" pulls car over to the side of the road. Producing large knife, he tells the salesman to get out of the car, and drives off. I've known it to happen.

Well, the Boxster for instance has the possibility of around 100 options.
Me: "I really like it but do you have one with the Bose stereo and the 18" rims with the traction control package, in yellow?"
The trick is to go right before they close, sometimes (not porsche) they will let you take the car overnight :)

LOL - By the time you get to "in yellow?" they gotta know what you're up to. Of course, by then, you've already driven it. What can they do?

Send them to a Thai jail. They feed chickens on top of the jail, so that chicken shit fall on the prisoners underneath.

The location was S&J Chevrolet. They are a sponsor on KRLA AM radio in Los Angeles home to Laura Ingrahm, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved, Hugh Hewitt and that crazy guy with the New York accent.

Maybe it was politcally motivated? Hey if you can blame the President for the Hurricane, why can't you blame S&J's choice to advertise as the cause for the crime?

Inmate reception center?

Inmate???

Isn't that kind of a crude term?

How about the "Guest Services Department of the California Lodging System"?

Why wouldn't they let him test drive the car? Did they think he was untrustworthy?

From the article:

The salesman refused to let the customer test drive the car because the man did not have proper identification...

Sorry. Sometimes I forget that there are people out there who don't recognize sarcasm without the proper tag. I was under the impression that my comment about him doubting the guy's trustworthiness was a dead give-away (pardon the pun.)

This sounds exactly like a scene from the movie The Hidden- except the guy was an alien and he actually got the car but it wasn't a vette- other than that it was exactly the same.

The similar scene in Die Hard 3 had to be one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen in an action movie.

The salesman usually wants ID produced, like a valid drivers' license and bank credit card as security. I can't imagine any one taking a human life over a car. There are some sick souls out there that will kill even when no provocation is offered. I hope this creep gets the death penalty.

I knew this man and he was a GREAT man. He was just married in July and has his first child on the way. This is a horrible thing that is just sickening! I can not believe that he is gone, the world lost a great person. I hope that everyone understands that this is not a joke. His wife is alone and will never get to see her husband again and his future daughter will never get to know her father. The man that killed him is going to get what is coming to him and will hopefully get the worst possible ever...... think about this would you want this man (the killer) to be out on the streets with you and your family? I know that I do not.
