FNC's Major Garrett: Red Cross Blocked by Order of the Louisiana State Government

The Red Cross Blocked

The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett was just on my show extending the story he had just reported on Brit Hume's show: The Red Cross is confirming to Garrett that it had prepositioned water, food, blankets and hygiene products for delivery to the Superdome and the Convention Center in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, but were blocked from delivering those supplies by orders of the Louisiana state government, which did not want to attract people to the Superdome and/or Convention Center. Garrett has no paper trail yet, but will follow up on his verbal confirmation from sources at the highest levels of the Red Cross.

The transcript of the interview will be available at Radioblogger later this afternoon.

And here is a very interesting article from Septmber of 2004:

Debate continues over Superdome as potential hurricane shelter

Seems that the debate over using the Superdome goes back almost a year, and that no one in New Orleans thought it would be a great place in a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane.

Key graphs:

"If we were to lose power, if we were to lose plumbing facilities, if a storm were to hit and create flooding in the area; the Superdome would not be a desirable place to be," he said.

The American Red Cross admits it would not stay in town for a severe hurricane. Workers would offer supplies and training to the Dome but would then leave to ensure aid for the hurricane's aftermath.

Kay Wilkins, spokesperson for the American Red Cross, said, "While we're saying we;re going to move our volunteers and staff out of the risk area into areas where its safer for them to be it doesn't mean we're not going to be here ahead of time for others."

Mayor Nagin said the city has more than 80,000 people without transportation access, and when the next hurricane evacuation there will be thousands of people who will not, or cannot, leave, highlighting the city's urgency of finding the most suitable place for shelter.

I saw the look in Bush's eye this morning when he said he definitely wanted an investigation

They did two bad things Dog Gone

1. They hurt American citizen and

2. They said he didn't care about those citizens

There will be an investigation and I guarantee you he will get to the very bottom of the corruption in that state and when NO is rebuilt, it's going to be a clean town in more ways than one.

Contrast the power struggle between Blank-0 and [empty]Noggin, with Guiliani and Pataki -- who were not the best of political allies to say the least, but ended up embracing eacher other literally after dealing with the wake of 9/11. The people of Louisiana deserve soooo much better than this. They certainly didn't deserve to pay with their lives for this B.S.

""But Bush is just a dummy, right? That's what the 'Rats still appear to believe. Funny thing is the smarter the 'Rats get, and the dumber Bush gets, the more elected posts shift from the blue column to the red. Eventually the 'Rats will get so smart they'll cease to exist altogether.""

Do you think we can get this accomplished before '08 or should we start a grassworks movement to allow W to run for a third term!!
If only we could get him set right on the border and some of this spending I think we could get enough support.

Doc, in reference to your post, you get no argument from me. And it's about high time this gets bumped to the heavens, exactly what the left is in this country.

Mayor Moonbat and Governor Dingbat should both be prosecuted, but of the two I think she has the greater guilt because she has the greater power.
All we need is somebody to prosecute, and that's rather unlikely.

I noticed that Drudge dropped the link to the story from his page. Hopefully this will get more play in other places.

What I find really scary is that if this happened 20 or 30 years ago, they might have succeeded. Thanks to the "new media", we won't let it happen.

The Governor is blaming the Mayor! Who's in charge, Governor? Lord, these people are stupid.

Today I started asserting to friends and family that LA residents will rapidly know the truth of the matter and that soon LA will be a red state and will remain so for a good long time. Now I am more convinced than ever. Great to see this is getting out.

Hey, I wonder what would happen to Blanco if we actually had an honest MSM?

These people moved into the Convention Center on their own. And it makes no difference, since Governor Blanco wouldn't have fed them, anyway.

Your thoughts have been my thoughts also...

This goes higher than just the Gov and Mayor of LA....and I don't mean the President either. Cause he is not a democrat.

Did anyone see the reporter interview a man who said there was no water coming over the levee at 17th Street Canal until a barge hit it? The reporter ask if the wind blew it or if someone was guiding it?

Boy...My thoughts are racing on that question.

It's because of this....what was done here is criminal.

Not near as criminal as when they did NOT used the "sub-marine" school buses and other public transit vehicles Friday, Saturday and Sunday to evacuate the people to safe places BEFORE Katrina hit NOLA!! HAD that been coordinated and executed, thousands of lives would have been saved and there would NOT had been the panic at the shelters!!!

Bush is smart enough to understand this. Even when he has to roll over or work around incompetents and idiots like Blanco and Nagin to get the job done, and even when they prove to be backstabbing ingrates, Bush will still maintain every appearance of genial cooperation.

Those idiots think that President Bush don't understand all the red tapes and they totally forget that he was a two term Governor himself over the largest State in the U.S.!!!

I did see the reporter with the man about the barge hitting the levee.........reporter glossed over it......

here's my take on the Governor......you know, in reality, all those people should have been moved even if it was to an empty parking lot or stadium or whatever.....

people should not have been told or hinted at to go a place where by all accounts was subject to flooding anyway...

In a well run society.....we would have gone in there and forcibly removed people or at least their children if they refused to leave...

this nonsense of picking up people one by one by rescue helicoptors is INSANE....

too many decisions left up to the people when in reality, the govt should have taken charge and got them the hell out of there....now look how prolonged the "rescue" attempts are going.....I'll bet its costing us 1 billion just for that....

in truth, no one should have been given the "out" of going to the Superdome.....

there should have no decisions or "choices" left to the people.....

they should have just been told to get the hell out of Dodge!
